I'm in the midst of installing the OE alarm on my '04 MCS. Comparing this alarm with pics that I've seen of earlier ones, there's a conspicuous absence of a separate tilt or motion sensor (it used to fit in the rear boot). The parts list does note an "Alarm Siren with Tilt Sensor".

I know that the number of parts for the '04 MY alarm are fewer and the price is lower, but does anyone know if there's been a change in functionality between this year's alarm and those from previous years?

Really? Anyone know?

I'm not 100% positive, but I believe whatever isn't included in the 04 alarm package is already in the car from the factory. I don't think the functionality has changed.

I can give one piece of advice to ppl installing the 04 alarm - when you're going to bolt down the thing under the hood, get a socket on an extension, and tape the bolt to the socket.

The '04 OE alarm definitely has a motion detector... my dog kept setting it off , until I figured out how to disable the motion detector.

From what I have heard the tilt sensor is in one of the other sensors. In the roof motion sensor or in the alarm horn in the front. The flashing on the wiper stalk is a bit different too. Read about hit here:

I just finished installing the 04 alarm last week. The tilt sensor is now incorporated into the siren under the bonnet and the ultrasonic sensor is on the roof like the previous model. Hence, the function should be the same. I think the reason for decreased pricing is mainly due to less parts, resulting in less installation time (3/4 hr according to the manual).
