Interior/Exterior Roof Rack Base...Easy to Install/Remove?

Roof Rack Base...Easy to Install/Remove?

The web site describes it "comes off easily" but does it really?

I only want it so can attach the Thule ski rack I own in the Winter but the rest of the year I'll leave it in the garage.

Is it easy to remove/install or not?

That sure sounds easy and is what I expected from the description.

My dealer though, who must have been mistaken when they said it, told me they want $1k for them with installation. I asked how that could possibly be since the description says they "come off easily" and just from looking at them you can see that there's no way it would take their guys more than 10 minutes (if that) to install them. They're checking on it.

Either they were trying to sucker you or they were quoting the wrong item. That price is nuts.

I think she just had no idea what she was talking about when she said $1k for that option. The labor to install the sports stripes properly far exceeds the labor to install the roof rack base and they only charge $272 for labor on the stripes. I expect that if she checked on that price it would be a small markup from the base price.

Doesn't matter though, she's not getting my business anyway.

My MA and I installed them when I picked up the MINI. It was only 5 minutes including unpacking and looking over the directions. They give you a little hex head torque wrench to tighten them down. I put little marks on the inside of the rail so I know exactly where to put them back. I install for taking the kayak to the shore and take them off after.

It is very easy and if your dealer charges to install them they should be ashamed and then shot.

I installed them inside the showroom in just about 5 minutes. Excellent fit and finish!!!

Can someone please provide the part numbers for the rails and the single bike carrier. I would like to install it myself and if I could save some $$$ buying online that would be great.

NOTE : the rails are EASY to install and remove.
As stated above, it takes 1 person about 5 minutes to accomplish.
Tip: "Snug up" all four clamps equally prior to fully tightening each one using the tool provided with the rails.

I was looking at getting the base bars, are people paying the msrp on the bars ($251.71 on minisite)? or what price are you getting at the dealers?

I bought mine on Amazon $231 out the door. 2 Day shipping with Prime.
Mine arrive yesterday.

(No Tax to California)

Mine were $250, no charge for installation (my MA was doing it himself when I arrived). They came off in about 2 minutes when I got home. I don't want to leave them on when I don't need them because I want to maximize gas mileage.

At a different dealership, they gave me a line about how they had to install them for them to be included in the warranty, even if I planned to take them off in the parking lot of the dealership after our business was included. I don't think they were planning on charging for installation, but we didn't get that far, so I can't be sure.

Thanks, never thought to look at amazon. The MA mentioned he could get me a discount at the parts department, but sounds like he might be gone this weekend when I drive out to get my car.

I didn't see any Roof Racks for $200 , for Countryman , make sure you are getting a rack that fits a Countryman. They are not the same.

I went a Thule setup since I already had the bars and faring. What is great about this is the ability to add a faring. You can't do that with the MINI bars and they are LOUD!!!!! I went with a Rocky Mounts red bike tray which matches my car. SWEET!!!!

I just picked mine up at the local dealer. They beat the Amazon price including tax by a couple of dollars after I asked them to price match it.

Hopefully tonight I'll find out how well the T bolts on my Thule trays work with the slots in the rack.

Why not? I know Inno makes a universal wind fairing that suppose to fit any factory rack, you can also usually either get adapters, or rig the Yak or Thule fairings to fit any bar.

To the OP, the rack is "easy enough" to take off and put on, but I still can't get the rear crossbar to the position I want without first placing it more forward then, inching it back until it won't slide any more.

It like the rails narrow as you go toward the back of the car, and the rear crossbar is too wide... At least for me. I think everyone else that's posted a picture is fine.
