When I received the German chrome collars for these two dash switches from RSpeed, no mounting instructions came with them. Neither did the collars have the 3M sticky mounting tape on them like all the other chrome trim goodies I had also ordered. To make it more mystifying, the chrome collars seemed too small. They would not slide completely over the existing black plastic collars that surround the Hazard and Dimmer buttons. So . . . what to do, what to do ???? The answer came to me in the middle of the night.

Here's how to install them: Firmly pull straight toward you each of the two existing black plastic collars and pop them into your freezer for 15 or 20 minutes. At the same time heat up the two heavy chrome collars in a 175-deg oven. Then with a pot holder, take one of the chrome metal collars out of the oven and put it face down on a solid surface. Then insert the black plastic collar, face down, as far as it will go. The two little plastic anchoring **** should be sticking straight up. Get a small block of wood that will be wide enough to fit in between the two protruding anchoring **** -- and then hammer on the wood block to press fit the cold black collars completely down inside the warm chrome collar.

Once its completely seated, you can reinstall in your dashboard the now chrome-covered button surround. Putting all the little chrome accents on your dash, really spiffs up the interior nicely !

They are smaller then the factory areas they are suppose to fit on. I had to hone/file the inside until I got a good fit. Then used my own tape on the inside but very thin type and only a little piece. I have yet to see anyone with one's that just slide on without filing them first. good Luck.

I skipped the heating/cooling steps and proceeded to just beat the hell out them with a block of wood and hammer as you described. Those suckers are never going to separate! I ended up having to file a little plastic from where the button came through because of clearance problems there.

Wow. I had a completely different experience...mine just slipped right on by hand, and I was actually worried they were loose enough that I would need to use some tape to keep them attached! But so far they have stayed on just fine without tape, and I can easily slip them off if I ever want to. I guess I was just lucky.

Oh Sh*t, you said 175 degrees, not 475 degrees! Now I got a lot of black goo all over my nice chrome.
