home link and auto dim mirror retrofit on an 02 mini cooper s

hello their i have read the posts on the retrofiting of the homelink and auto diming mirror but they arnt that discriptive and am hoping to make a more easy to follow retrofit, for an 02 mini cooper s.

a couple of queschines i had

was,

the mirror i have is a home link and auto dim and it has this wire layout on the mirror.

1: geay wire
2:purple wire
3:red wire
4:white wire
5:black wire

6:white wire
7:black wire
8: orange wire
9:unused
10:brown wire

I have the retrofit kit that has the blue green and brown wire but want to make sure that the auto dim reverse shutoff and home link works, what wires do what?

I have two white wires and a grey wire, what do these do and what does the purple 4.5v wire do?

just want to make sure i hook this up right!

thanks a billion!!!!

oh yea this is going into a 02 mini cooper s with sunroof so i will have to tap into the upper clock power and run the blue wire down to the reverse light wire to activate the auto shut off for the mirror.

other than that it fits like a charm just need to combine wires correctly

thanks for the help!
Chris.

The wiring diagrams only show colors on the car side (not mirror side) of the connector, but they list the pin numbers.

Only 5 pins are used on the car side.
pin 10 is ground (always brown in BMW/MINI)
pin 3 goes to switched 12v power
pin 1 goes to the backup light

pins 2 and 8 are power and signal for the remote key lock antenna. The mirror is the newer style ('05+) that has the remote antenna in the mirror. Prior to '05, the remote antenna was in the headliner. Since you have an '02, those two connections would not apply to you.

cool thanks for the info!

what about the home link wires which ones would i have to jump to make the home link work?

thanks a billion!

HomeLink should be a self contained module that only needs power. I would assume that it takes power from the 12V line.

ok hooked the red wire from the mirror to the power and the brown wire to the grownd and the grey wire to the reverse. still nothing did i hook it up wrong? are those wires correct, i keep seeing different answeres from different posts, does anybody know for sure what wires does what and what ones i should jump or whatever to make the auto dim and home link work?

thanks!!

That's all the information I have. The wiring diagram shows the pin connections I mentioned.
