Firewall Sound Dampening?

This may sound dumb, but I absolutely love the sound of my exhaust. Best one I think I've ever heard from a 4cyl and thats saying a lot considering I'm always looking to make everything better.
Only problem is I never hear it because the engine itself is so damn loud. I was thinking about using some dynamat or other sound dampener between the interior firewall and the interior panels. Nothing big, but in the footwells and possibly behind the ash if i can get back there without too much issue.
It also occurred to me to maybe mount it on the engine side of the firewall and on the back part of the hood and wrapping it with some hardcore insulation.
Anyone ever do any of that? How'd it go?

In order to access the interior firewall you'll need to completely remove the dash and instrument cluster which I've done twice for other reasons(wiring harness changes) and can say it's a royal PIA. There is an open space between the outer firewall and the engine bay plastic liner that can be accessed by removing the cowel covers that would be a great place to load up on insulation but unfortunately it has water flowing through half of it when it rains. The battery compartment is a dry space and is also where the vent to the outside air for the climate control system is so some intake noise is coming through to the interior when you have the recirc off and the flap is open.

Now if I layed in sound dampening in the space between the outer firewall and the plastic liner, (which I never even though of. Had to get in there to run a switch) You think I could just wrap it in some waterproof insulation to keep it from getting too hot and too wet?

if you got a MCS, might look into the "noisemaker" delete. not sure how much a difference it really makes. some even claim increased responsiveness.

You could use spectum sludge....3 heavy coats. I read about a guy who coated the whole inside of a truck - said it was the best insulation/deadner he had ever used.
