shaved doors anyone?

i was wondering if anyone has shaved their doors and installed a door popper kit. i would like to see pictures and hear how the install was. it seems easy enough and i could probably use the key fob to open them.

What exactly are "shaved" doors?

Have you ever seen a street rod that has no door handles? They have been shaved. The door handle area is filled in and smoothed over. remote entry is the only way to open the doors from outside. Handle can still be on the inside. They really do look nice.Universal shaving kits are available.

Motor on

It does look good on some cars with acres of sheet metal with little or no styling features, but I think a MINI is really too small to benefit from it. There's just too much going in design-wise on pretty much every square inch of body so it prolly wouldn't even get noticed.

Just my $0.02

i t hink it would look real nice. i also think that the hood scoop would look real nice if the lines in the hood scoop were shaved to look smooth. ive been tryn to figure a way to do that. i patent that idea so to late everyone else!! trunk might look good too without that huge license plate thingy

Is this a common problem where you are? Common enough to consider such a radical mod? If it is, you may want to consider moving before "shaving" your door handles.

i like the hood scoop idea. i have a good deal on a kit that someone accidentally ordered two of. i think i may just go ahead with it. i would really like to see some pics too if anyone has them on a mini. or a mini with suicide doors.

While I'm not in favor of "shaving" the retro handle kind a sucks... a redesigned door handle that is integral with the door would be a nice touch as oppose to the chrome thing that sticks out and that only opens from one end. The mini is an aerodynamic disaster...

PuppetMaster2u, I really like your "canines in the grill", are those for real? did you do them yourself or are they commercially available? Do you also have eyes inside? Jock

They're not add-ons... I think his MINI was driving past an army test site one day when the were scheduled to explode a test gamma bomb. There was this brilliant flash of light and....

Depending on the linkage (I have never cracked the doors open) but you might be able to put in the popper kit and leave the handles. Same functionality as the shaved, but keep the stock look.

btw, shaved doors can be entered using a "popper" as mentioned, which is activated with the key door opener. Hit it twice and the doors unlock, then pop open. No need to get in via the boot lid.

i think it would be harder than it seems cause i just realized its not just about removing the handle and using some bondo, you also have to fill in that door recess or "cup" where your hand goes. And that would take more than bondo to fill and do it right.

Holdenontoit,

Yes I have Stoopidgirl's eyes as well

The canines are something I made for fun out of a white plastic (tupperware-like) lid to something. I made them, as well as the 129 magnets, b/c I wanted something to make my car stand out when I went down to the dragon (it did... made it on Killboy.com's front page last week). I thought it was fun I do not keep the magnet & canines on the car all the time though. When they are on there though, I like how it looks like they (canines) almost "finish up" the bottom of the white bonnet stripes. The wife says she don't want em on all the time though.....I dunno why though... our license plate spells Curve Eater

But anyway...white plastic lid cut into triangles

I have several different magnetic "accent" graphics on my car... small flames and other subtle designs that I can add or remove at will... I can't wait to use my custom Dragon Flames down at MotD in May.

As for the door MOD, I think I'll keep my handles and do something kike this instead. Wouldn't this just make people's jaws drop?

i extremely dislike the lambo doors. its too played out. after seeing the shaved doors on the DS i like the idea again. my friend filled his recesses in with bondo as a short term thing, but the way to go is get some metal and weld it into place, then paint and what not.
