There's a blanking plate for some kind of switch on the left side of the parcel shelf. What kind of switch goes in this spot for the european models? Does this switch light up with the rest of the dash lights? Jimbo

Generally it is used as a spot for the driving light switch. This is from my car:

Does this switch light up with the rest of the dash lights? >>Don't know for sure if it lights up, but the switch is the control for the non-xenon headlight level adjustment found on the euro models and from this pic you can see there is design of a headlight that one would think is back lit. I don't think it lights up- just has the white painted markings or could be backlit. Yes, This is correct for the reason for the switch. I asked about it while I was in the UK and I was told the same thing. _________________ http://images.animfactory.com/animat...e/m_md_blk.gifhttp://images.animfactory.com/animat...e/c_md_blk.gifhttp://images.animfactory.com/animat...e/s_md_blk.gifALOHA |
My parcel shelf matches Greatbear's. I also have my driving lights control there. There is a light in it that comes on when the switch is turned on, though the lights only come on when the high-beams are also on.

Wow, diagrams and everything. Thanks guys. It's looking like a good spot for the garage door opener to me. Should offer relatively easy access for battery replacement or code changes compared to some of the admittedly ingenious installations delineated in other postings here. I was quite disappointed when I found out that you can't just pop another toggle in the row. There was a bit of their too cute promotional material that implied it. Anyway, I like using a factory momentary switch if I can find a spot for it, getting tied in to the dash lights is usually easier, though not always with a fiber optic system. I was going to use the cigarette lighter for my garage door opener button, but then it can't be used as a 12V power source. Now all I've gotta do is get a parcel shelf. Jimbo
