The 2nd Official Mad Modder thread

Yes, the last one went down in flames, but let's see if we can revive the spirit without the emotional baggage.

Here's the latest mod to my little dose of LITHIUM:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...Mini0908-1.jpg

Can't tell? Well, I used to have Cooper side markers, but I now have the Cooper S side markers back on, Plastidip'd (gotta love that stuff!) with red Ss to match the little Canon L lens red rings on the wheels. Maybe a subtle theme is emerging here?

cheers

DrPhilGandini 09-24-2008 09:36 AM

or we could call it the Official Mad Modder mod update thread...

There's got to be a place to show off all those fine little details that took hours to accomplish but can only be noticed by people with OCD.

btw, I've always liked the "point of view" from which my photo above was made--the Mini looks small, yet hunkered down from slightly above the normal line of sight.

bamatt 09-24-2008 10:34 AM

Your MINI looks great, very stealth http://coopernation.net/Smileys/new/grrrbite.gif

That is an awesome pic of your car Phil! It looks pretty mean.

BTW, just tried to call you a little while ago...didn't leave a message, i'll try again later.

pauliekeys 09-24-2008 12:53 PM

I'm with ya on the Plasti Dip Dr Phil ! I used it to complete the black out treatment on Boo ! It was used on the side repeaters, gas cap and two secret spot's.
I had over the last two years slowly blacked out all of the exterior chrome starting with the headlight rings, belt line and just this last year added the door handles, side repeaters and gas lid as stated before. Lagston rapped the rings and door handles. He also did my ruby red tail lights. The rear of the car has also been shaved for a nice clean look.

The car has really been transformed over the last two years (just ask my wife ) I notice it most when I see a stock PW/B mini on the road. This past year and a half "Boo" has had a Factory painted Areo kit installed, two different set's of coilovers, a new set of 16" Konig Feathers for the twisty's to add to countless other mods that had already been done in the past.

I'm extremely happy how Boo has turned out !
Humble beginnings !

Those before and after photos are great! It's very obvious you're a detail kind of person.
On a side note, in a state where you have to run a front plate, is it possible to cut it down in size so that just the letters and sticker are visible?
PS how are those halo parking lights/turn signals at the front holding up?

pauliekeys 09-24-2008 04:39 PM

It's fun to look back to the beginning before the mod transformation !
Boo's come a long way in three years. I think he's one of the more unique PW/B Mini's out there.

I'm not sure there is any state that allows someone to alter the size of there plate (cut it down) legally ! Here in Cali it's gotten very hard to risk running without a front plate. No more fix a ticket and they're pulling people over left and right ! I've got a custom tow hook plate holder that I like very much. I can honestly say that I don't mind the way it looks on the car although, I do like the look of no front plate the best. I've modified plate holder to sit much lower then other tow hook plate mounts on the market and I can remove it very easily if I want. I always seem to forget to take it off before going out to take a few pictures ! LOL !

As for the Angel eye's, I've had no problems with them at all !

With a display like that, and numbers like those--you are IN!
Like totally IN...

That is really cool. Too bad you can't monitor some of those numbers while driving, unless you have a laptop mount.

While not entirely practical for everyday use, it can be monitored while driving. The trends mean more than the live screen.

Please tell us that schroth harness is mounted correctly. It looks like it's not using the rear mounts and you modified it to mount straight down. (dangerous)

batrugger 10-02-2008 05:58 PM

That is just for the picture . When it is used the rear interior cover comes out and the area where the rear seat belts mount has been cut out so it can be used with the GP foam rear insert. She really does actually run this car on the track

nabeshin 10-02-2008 06:18 PM

Ok, good to know. I was just concerned.

batrugger 10-03-2008 10:19 AM

Thanks for the concern. I would like to say it is obviously not needed, but you do see some crazy stuff on the forums
