Can't decide on paint job...

as soon as i get the system and interior done, and prally will get it lowered first too, i want to get it repainted. theres some dings i need fixed, some things shaved (emblems, side vents, mold scoop to bonnet, etc)

im deff. staying with black, but i cant decide if i want gloss black with flat black accents and stripes (maybe even the whole roof flat black with the rest of the body gloss)

or completely flat black.

my rims are gloss black, but i have the option to do flat or gloss black spokes since they are removable and paintable to whatever color/finish i want.

i cant decide...what should i do?

if i do flat black, the door jams will not be changed, they will stay gloss Jet Black. if i repaint gloss, itll just be a new coat of the factory color Jet black paint.

btw- the flat black r56 fireballed Mini has the same gloss black rims as i do. i dont think it looks bad at all with the gloss rims and flat paint (i think his is vinyl, but the same look overall)

+1 for Flat Black.
I know you are going all black, but I have had the idea for a long time about getting another MINI just so I could do it flat black with brushed metal accents. A-La Exile Motorcycles.

i want flat black but at the same time i still like the gloss. i think i figured out how i want it. maybe the next car will be flat black.

but for this, this is my plan, i think

gloss: entire body, rims (already black) wheel arches/side skirts.

flat: (not vinyl, actual paint) gas cap, door handles, factory grille (upper and lower) the mesh grille in the rear bumper, exhaust tips (already flat black) spokes on rims (in process) my spoiler, bonnet and hatch stripes in flat black, but painted on, tail lights/headlights/headlight rings.

theres some other things but i cant think of it.

i wonder how it would look if i did the whole roof flat black vs just the spoiler? maybe even the bumpers?

idk. either way i think ill get the best of both worlds, and do gloss with flat accents.

really i dont wanna go all flat black becuase the fact that my rims are gloss black, and im not buying new rims.

Flat Black!!!

Bmw has had a bunch of showcars mainly the z4 coupe in matte finishes you'd have thought they might be offering them on production cars but...not yet

pimpedout97x Sep 3, 2008 10:43 AM

are any cars offered factory in a flat/matte paint? i think it looks nice on just about any car

cartar452 Sep 3, 2008 11:25 AM

idk of any cars but there's some bikes that do...

WOW thats niceeeeeeeeeeee

Kelly Girl Sep 3, 2008 11:58 AM

paint the mini flat black then cover it in fishnet

ih8cornnuts Sep 3, 2008 12:02 PM

I've only seen it on concept cars (mainly BMW) and sport bikes. Every so often there are rumors BMW is going to offer it, possibly on the next Z2 and Z4. In the garage at my loft there's both a matte black Ducati Monster and a Matte silver/blue BMW. I feel left out not having a bike.

I don't understand the flat black thing, I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, I just don't understand it and am hoping for a little insight as to why everyone seems to think this is so cool.

I think it looks like krylon.

What's so neat about it?

pimpedout97x Sep 3, 2008 01:06 PM

its one of those things that you either like it or you dont, some hate it and think it looks like primer but i think it looks cool, its different, although starting to become more common..

pimpedout97x Sep 3, 2008 03:18 PM

negative.

A good flat black job would cost thousands and thousands. It's a lot harder to get right than a gloss job. There's a guy on bimmerforums, matteblackcoupedude or something like that, who painted his m coupe flat black and it ran around 13k or something crazy like that
