So I'm an idiot, all in the pursuit of burgers...

So pulling into in n out yesterday i was so exicted to get my burger fix. I did not take into account that small curb infront of my car.
I also did not take into account the shortness of the parking space.
So i rolled into it with the lower part of the stock splitter.
Man am i upset. there are scratch marks all over it and a stress mark that is verrry obvious.
I dont want to look like everyother person in california who has a nice car.
opps i ran it into something... oh well.
I need to get this fixed or fix it myself.
any oppinions out there. I know the NAM everyones got one..
and if i cant fix it (its likely i cant ) how much would the plastic piece that runs the bottom of the bumper cost me or would it be just better to go to the aero kit, I like that quite a bit.

Pics would help a lot. Not ENTIRELY sure what it is that you're talking about. The grey plastic piece on the bumper I think is part of the bumper, thus it's not something that can just be replaced. I'd go with the Aero Kit bumper.

Im not totally sure if I know which part your talking about but if its the one im thinking of, try this:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=diy+splitter

silversmoke06 May 13, 2008 05:41 PM

Its the lip that the seal is attached to.
thats what im talking about.

chpsk8 May 13, 2008 08:50 PM

If you're talking about the black plastic part at the bottom of the bumper... then you'll need a new bumper.
If you have an aftermarket splitter, then you can just get a new splitter.
There is no such thing as a "stock splitter" and I think thats what people are confused about in your original post.

Well if it's the bottom black plastic part....you don't need a whole new bumper, you just get a new black plastic piece. That costs less than $20 I believe. Only reason you would need a full new bumper would be if you cracked the bodycolored part of the bumper beyond repair.

MLPearson79 May 13, 2008 09:34 PM

Yes, you can get just the black plastic piece as a separate part. If you do a search around here you should be able to come up with the part number...otherwise, just call your dealer and they can look it up for you.

That lower lip is so messed up on my car...the vertical plastic bit too.

Dont feel too bad, this past winter i kept creeping closer and closer to a snow pile trying to park as close as possible to get as far out of the street as i could and i hear "scruuuuggggff ". i managed to be super dumb and bump it. it spider webbed the paint on my bumper ( stress marks ). it wasnt cheap to get fixed but rest assured theres plenty of other dumb people out there besides yourself.

silversmoke06 May 14, 2008 10:37 PM

yeah dident do anything to the paint. just the black bit on the bottom.
Thanks guys.

billie_morini May 14, 2008 11:26 PM

silversmoke,

It’s not so bad!

Someone else damaged the lower spoiler:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...=lower+spoiler

Someone else requested and received pricing for lower spoiler and many related parts:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134194&highlight=air+dam

Someone bought a lower spoiler from Classic Mini for very little money:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...=lower+spoiler

Someone made their own lower spoiler using rubber garage door seal from Home Depot:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...hlight=air+dam
(not sure if this last link will work as a "clicky thing." It's supposed to, but if not, then copy and paste into browser.)

It's ok only because it was in pursuit of an In N Out burger. If it were any other fast food restaurant then shame on you!

silversmoke06 May 15, 2008 01:20 AM

I think that everyone is missing my drift. Im talking about thepart that meets the actual grill. where the garage door spoiler attaches too. its that piece it has a seam at both ends but i dont know if i can get it out. and i have to find pricing for the aero kit cause i would like one if its not terribly priced.

billie_morini May 15, 2008 02:43 AM

O I C, but I don't C. Photo, please.

that7guy May 15, 2008 07:47 AM

Yea, I think pictures would be best.

Just to clarify for those of you that have never been out west... In-N-Out Burger is the best burger on the left coast. http://www.sunshineminis.org/forums/...ondrinkeat.gif
If you're on the right coast then you'll be looking for Five Guys Burgers & Fries.http://www.sunshineminis.org/forums/...ticonthumb.gif

This concludes the highjacking of this thread.. You may resume your crashing into curbs thread.http://www.sunshineminis.org/forums/...onofftopic.gif

Thats because I'm still sitting here waiting for the pictures to be posted as it has been requested several times. :sly:
I just figured that he must not own a digital camera and he had to finish off the roll of 36 before sending it off to Wal-Mart headquarters to have it developed.
Then he'll have to find someone that can scan the prints into digital images so that he can then upload it to his gallery so that he can post it for us to see.

See!

Or maybe he forgot about us.. Maybe he tripped on the steps of his house and no one has checked on him.

Rally@StanceDesign Sep 11, 2008 10:33 AM

ok

MINI_chili Sep 11, 2008 11:18 PM

well, as far as crashing into curbs go, I have a sad MINI story myself
late one night my friend was following me home from his house, he called me and said we needed to go back so he could grab something so... I decided to pull into the parking lot on my right (not very well lit, but enough(or so i thought)) I pull into the PAVED entrance, then BAM there was a curb! It scraped, messed up my front struts or whatever, the center bottomed out, and my exhaust scraped... worst driving experience i've had. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I went back to that parking lot in the daytime and there were 2 entrances from that road, both paved the same, but one of them has a curb in the way, my friend was driving a truck and I heard his exhaust hit too!!! I'll post a pic of the entrance tomorrow
I'm glad I had the stock suspension, it probably would have got high-centered and then rear ended by my friend's truck

If you got to eat In'n'Out who cares. I'm in Ga. now and someone could steal my mini in front of me so long as I got a double double with tomatoes and grilled onions. oh oh oh and a strawberry shake.

ohh this is months old....dammit now I want In'n Out though last night I did have a 5 guys and thats the closest I'll get for now.

OldRick Sep 12, 2008 02:09 PM

The In-and-Out burger is a cult thing. Having tried one, IMHO it was about as good as the steam-table burgers they used to dip out of the grease-pan in my high-school cafeteria.

MINI_chili Sep 12, 2008 08:21 PM

ok, pics of the parking lot entrance are gunna have to wait-- hurricane Ike decided to come straight toward Houston, and I don't have headlights at the moment

MINI_chili Oct 11, 2008 11:33 AM
