MCS rear bumper grille insert painting

I knowthis may sound weird, but rather than spend some ridiculous amount of money for rear bumper grille inserts, has anyone removed the black plastic inserts and painted them? And if so, how does it look? My O5 MCS is hyper blue/white roof so I figured I'd paint them a gray or maybe aluminum color. Thanks.

I removed them, set them to the side, went to Home Depo, bought Aluminum,
house gutter guards (keeps leaves and out of the rain gutters, cut them in the same shape, as the plastic inserts, painted primer, placed in warm oven a couple of times, painted with satin black, repeated oven process (Spray Paint), cut a couple of slits in the heat shield , push the heat shield above the vent area,
Pic at a local club site, http://www.tarheelminis.org/gallery/...php?photo=1853
this might work for your $12 two cans paint, gutter guards,
I did not that with the shield pushed up, less drone in the car when moving.
Thought I share an idea...

Thanks, but I can't figure out how to pop them out! And you're obviously much handier than I am, too. Yours look cool though I have to admit. I notice you have the rear backup/fog lite. Where did you get it and is it hard to install for a non-DIY'er? I just have the ugly black plastic insert. Thanks.
