Help! Installed gauge face, now tach won't work!
 

I installed Cockpit Specialties gauge faces today, tach and speedo. Problem: My tach needle only goes up to about 700 rpm now - when I rev the engine the needle just vibrates around 700 and will go no further. When the car is off, the needle is just over the 0.

Any ideas how to fix?

(The speedometer didn't turn out perfectly either. Even though the needle was in the right place when I tested it, after I put the dash back together I noticed the needle had dropped to about -5 mph. I only use the digital speedo, and taking the center dash apart is a pain, so I'm not going to try to fix it.)

I'd check for clearance issues might be hitting the face around the 700 mark ... I'd pull the needle out slightly and see if it works better

i had a bit of trouble when puttin the tach back together. you have to make sure when the needle is off plug it in and hear the motor moving so it's back to the regular place (resets?) and THEN put on the needle without moving it in either direction. that way you calibrate it perfectly. imagox explained it very well in his how-to post.

oh and also..make sure the silver cap piece that goes over the needle isnt rubbing on the face plates.

Yep... I was going to 'ditto' minjay's suggestion. Good to hear that you got it fixed.

My speedo is still off by 2 MPH, but I don't pay much attention to the center speedo while I'm driving, so it doesn't bother me.

The trick to aligning the speedo needle (and the tach also) is to have the gauge powered up while you insert the needle. To realign the speedo, you don't have to take the whole gauge out again, just remove the dash trim and the clear gauge cover. Pull off the needle, turn the ignition to position 1, and reinsert the needle.
