Shark Fin on Non Shark Fin Mini (Nav Equip’d)

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
My building automatic garage door decided to close / malfunction as I was leaving and it clipped my stubby antenna cause the housing to brake. Since I have to replace the housing anyway, I was wondering if anyone successfully installed an OEM shark fin antenna on a Mini that came with the standard “flexible” antenna?? If so, what are the part numbers I need to order from the dealer???

Thanks
Peepers

There's a link to it, but there isn't a part number. I checked the other models, with no avail.

The shark fin on top is not the radio antenna, it's for the NAV. The radio antenna is in the rear passenger side window. At least thats how it is on mine, and it's what my MA told me.

I'm in the process of dealing with the building management. I'll post the outcome for those who are curious.

Regarding the parts that I need, when I key in my last 7 VIN# digits, it tells me I need the following http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...07&hg=65&fg=30

When I compare it to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...32&hg=65&fg=50 it states "No parts found matching your car" and based on the photos it doesn't look like it'll even connect properly?

Thoughts?

You don't have to use your VIN. You can do a search/browse and look at ALL R50/R52/R53/R56....ect. I did a browse for that part on R50 and R53 in both EU and US. I found nothing.

Jason C - I think might be wrong or your MA gave you incorrect info? My car is equipped with NAV and it ever came with a shark fin. The NAV antenna (GPS) can be seen here #8 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...57&hg=65&fg=50
Now where all these parts are hidden within that car, I'm not to sure??

FL Blue Mini, I know how realOEM works and the search options. However what I was saying is that the two style antenna's don't look to be interchangeable? It appears that if your car came with a flexible type then you must stick with the flexible type (basing this on the connectors), and visa versa with the shark fin. Can anyone confirm this??

Im going to guess they are different. But I have no concrete evidence to back that up.

As Jason C said, 'shark fin' cars came with the radio antenna integrated into the rear passenger window.

Jason C 02-15-2008 10:26 AM

All I know is that I have a radio antenna integrated into my rear passenger glass, and that every MINI I've seen locally that has NAV looks the same.
Good luck on your mission guys.

The '05s had a revised dual purpose antenna base that integrated (or at least co-located) the Nav antenna with the radio, hence the demise of the shark fin.

Well it looks like the property management will be paying for this thus I have to have the dealer perform the work so I doubt they'll install anything other than what my car was orginally equiped with.
It was worth a shot anyway
Thanks
Peepers
