anyone know if someone has done the joey mod to the piece that goes around the xenon, the piece with all the holes that everyone paints a diff color.

I was thinking, with an AB car, it may look silly if I black it out. So i decided I may keep it bright in there, but only do that part. Since my theme is AB/Red, I would do that part red too. Any thoughts?

The Process is complete I feel great. I never thought in a million years I would attempt something like this. I believe the finshed product looks awesome on my car. I'm still waiting for my HL Rings to come in any day now. I also want to thank everyone in this thread because this mod would of never happened on my car without you guys.

I gotta say it actually looks really good with you chrome rings...if you weren't already getting the rings done I'd say leav'em the way they are

The tinted turn signal looks great...hows it look when the bulb turns on?

When they signal's come on they are full orange you couldn't tell they were tinted. Also the rest of my chrome is blacked out so I feel I need to finish with the HL rings.

Can you get a brighter pic of the headlight and wheel together? I may want to do this to mine since I too have anthracite wheels!

Would offset with Red around the Xenon! Wow, you people are bad influence...

I'll try, but it won't be today. The problem is that the white is so overwhelming that it throws the exposure off for the rest of the picture. Maybe I'll try an HDR to see if that helps. Plus the wheels are about 10 shades darker because of dirt buildup, haha.

I can tell you that the gray I used is much lighter than anthracite, so if you're looking for a match, this isn't even close.

oooooo okay...thanks for the tip. Maybe I should find darker, maybe even glossier paint instead of the matte. I tell you though, from the picture that shade of gray looks perfect. Hmmmm...

Either way, it looks awesome.

Just wrapped. The messy stuff you see in the pic is actually excess vinyl from the hood wrap. I didn't clean up the recessed area where the rings go because I thought you wouldn't be able to see it.

So yeah, it's just a vinyl wrap.

hey guys im thinking of joey modding my DS/DS, but not too sure about the color scheme.

1.- DS everything, and Projector ring BLACK
2.- Black everything, and Projector ring DS

also, if i get the paint from Minspeed do you guys think it will hold up? like no blistering due to the heat from the balasts/bulbs?

and where should i get the black paint from... just regular walmart?

I think either would look awesome (try so photoshop tests)
DS everything may be ur best bet for the body paint because I'm not sure how that kind of paint would hold on the ring (i think the ring is where some have had blistering) but others could chime in on the minispeed paint on it because I have seen plenty with it (it may just be all in the prep work)

I know for me I used walmart stuff (though if I had the HID I would have done my ring in PW) auto primer then krylon fusion...has held up even on the metal bulb cone (which I was really surprised it never blistered)

i haven't done my mini, still deciding if I want to, but...

I did it on my old accord, with a high temp valve cover paint. never had to even think about the heat causing blisters. It's a paint that needs to be applied and then heated to fully cure. One headlight I just installed without heat curing and i think the heat from the bulbs did enough, the other i used a heat gun, no problems with that one either.

Anyone on here do a gloss black, or a black chrome?

I like the idea of black housing, but after having it on my old car, I really got sick of the matte look.

any good pics of it?

I'm kinda leaning towards black chrome though... Trying to find a way to do it that doesn't require chrome plating, since that's pretty expensive

If you clear coat over the satin (flat black) it will become gloss....at least for the duplicolor wheel paint (which I used on my rims)

im thinking il do DS the whole chrome part of the housing, and the projector ring il do in gloss black... what do you guys think?

im planning on getting the minspeed paint, but im not sure if it will stand those temperatures, if not il have to go to my uncles dupont paint shop and ask them to make me a special heat resistent DS 871 bmw code paint!

i think that'd look great, but you really really need to do it right. you can't just clean and spray. You're gonna have to wetsand to get everything nice and smooth, and probably clear coat, so that you can have a nice glossy coat. If you just paint the way it is, half of it will have a textured finish and look kinda weird.

that being said, i contacted my cousin, and he said he can make me a batch of paint that is up to 60~70 C (70 degrees Celsius = 158 degrees Fahrenheit) resistant and that will match the DS color.

is that enough heat resistant for the chrome housing? i really dont know how hot that part gets, or how much "regular" paint holds up
