Gaining confidence, moving to paint other parts of the chrome family
All right folks, now that I have painted my hood scoop and seeing how good it came out, I am ready test other parts of the chrome family...
I have seen folks here buy tape or vinyl to black out the tail light rings and/or headlight rings, I want to paint them.
Can someone provide me with some input as to how to remove the taillight / headlight rings? The chrome pieces of course...
They will match my hood scoop in satin black.
Thanks in advance !

Hi Andyde,
Nice photos of Hill Country. I was born there on a ranch near Frio River. Heaven.
Ok, the tail rings just pop out. Pry them with something that won't chip the paint and they come right off. Ditto the headlights but they have the clips on the inside. Just pry the clips and the whole thing pops off. Take care not to break any clips (famous last words).
I wrapped my in vinyl because these parts are easily removed and it worked. Not that it's easy....you have to be patient and pick good quality vinyl, 3m, FDC or Avery....Lyle at Vinyl Styles is the pre-eminent professional if you want someone else to do it. The advantage to painting is that it's not so susceptible to chips and is reversible if chrome ever comes back in style or if you want to sell you car to an older person in the future.
For painting chrome, like the door handles and gas tank lid, I've used Bulldog adhesive promoter and Wurth Black trim paint from Pelican. Both very good stuff.
Best of luck!

Hey Flaco!
First let me say your ride is superb... very nice and clean. I have been following the other threads here. I do hear you that it would be "easier" to go w/ vinyl because of the reasons you already mentioned below. i am having a hard time justifying the costs thou. We'll see, I will follow the instructions you outlined below and we'll see how it goes.... I won't do this anytime soon but will get to it over the holidays.
P.S. I am saving for DDM CAI and driving lights...
Thanks for the input.
