Tints>dot matrix

Just got my shiny new chili red R56 and im sure the rest of you can understand how thrilled i am. I put some 20% tints on it to help shield me and my interior from the miami heat and sun. i would love to see photos of someone else's tints to see how they came out because apparently my installer was unable to work with the "dot matrix" and there is a somewhat visible outline of the tints on the back windows. Is this normal? i went back a couple of days afterwards to see if he could do anything more but he simply ran his finger over it and told me to get used to it. Anyways, love to see some pictures to compare. PS- anyone have any idea when that CAI is coming out? thanks! drive safe and fun.

K&N has one part # 57A-6033.

If I understand you correctly, youre describing the way the tint film goes over the dotted pattern on the inside of the windshield.

With any aftermarket applied film there is pretty much no way to get the film to seal completely around those little dots. Look close at any vehicle that's been done with film. It's always there.

As long as there aren't any bubbles in the actual window pane area, don't worry.

Mines the same way. The little dots are slightly raised, leaving a tiny gap around them that the tint cant adhere to. If you want me to, I will go out and take a photo of mine and post it here. Just let me know. Dani

This is true. Also, at first it is more noticeable. As the soap mixture dries and the haze disappears, that area becomes less obvious.

some tinters use black vinyl inside to cover the dots and then tint up to them, comes out really good if the tinter is sharp.

its easy to cope with the dots on the window, there are black glass paint pens on the market that can disappear the dots under the tint. I dont know if any web site has em. I got it from a custom shop here.

Loony2N 06-27-2007 12:49 PM

You mean make them not visible? That doesn't address the issue of the unavoidable spaces under the tint.

Murathan 06-27-2007 12:52 PM

yes it makes the dots invisible from outside even if you look closer u cant notice them with %20 tint.

Xiek 06-27-2007 12:55 PM

you will have a bit of that no matter what... some places are worse then others.

I have 5% on the rear of mine... I can barely notice them.. I will try to take a pic tonight to show you.

thanks for the quick response, guys. yeah,my dot matrix situation has improved a bit over a couple of days. but i still have a faint outline. Whoever brought up the pen idea, i have never heard of those, if you could find a website or tell me a brand name, that'll be greatly appreciated.
As for the CAI, yeah, super cool find, anyone tried it yet? any reveiws? dynos?

Loony2N 06-28-2007 10:47 AM

I got 5% on my sunroof, 20% on the windows and I cannot see the dots from outside.
