Vinyl Decal or Paint for Roof?

Hi All,

Finally, after waiting in "On Order" status for 6 weeks my baby is now in production! Extremely happy! My question is should I go with a custom paint job for my roof or should I just order a custom color decal from cooperflags. The roof will just be a solid color, no designs.

Thx!

Painting it, and painting it right will cost you a fortune, but will look much better overall IMO. It really comes down to if your willing to spend the money. Paint lasts until you scratch it, vynal lasts 3-7years usually, depending on brand and quality. Paint will reflect like the rest of your MINI, vynal will be a flat color for the most part. Paint is alot to replace, vynal is a heat gun to go back to OEM or another $350 to change the color. Lots of options, but it really comes down to how you want to do it.

I'd go with the vinyl; less permanent. You may change your mind at some point in the future and peeling is way cheaper than re-painting.

If you are going to use standard solid colored vinyl, I wouldn't bother to have a special decal made from a specialty shop. Just get your local sign shop to wrap your roof in whatever standard color 3M vinyl you like.

As an example, I covered my sunroof in basic white vinyl myself for about $15. I bought a sheet of vinyl from the local sign shop and did it myself. Sure, a roof will take a larger piece and may require more skill than my smaller job, but you should be able to do this very cheaply.

I had a perfectly good post in here that disappeared. Where is it?? Anyway, I said go with the decal, which is much easier to change if you decide you don't want it anymore and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Go with a decal... do you have a sunroof?

Mine is a one piece printed decal, guaranteed for 5 yrs. my local sign guy did it and all of my stickers. well ok 99.9% minus the ones I picked up at meets. I have a sunroof too, and I can still see out of it. Similar product that they wrap the bus' with.

Thanks all! I'll go with the vinyl. Plust I just had a thought - it might help for resale value if I can easily change back to the OEM look.

Xiek - no sunroof for me.
Yucca Patrol - thx for the advice on using a local shop!
