Is there anything inside to prevent leaves & other debris from getting into the duct?

There is nothing to prevent leaves and other debris. I'm not very worried about it. Living in the concrete jungle of the Dallas/FW area there are not that many trees, unlike the when I lived in the northeast. I did drive through a swarm of grasshoppers today and the grills were covered. I know some had to get into the ducts. These were not small grasshopeprs either (picture later). There were no braking issues. The duct points to center of the hub but is a good 2-3" away, most items will just fall away.

Now also being North Tx there are armadillos. I don't think one would fit all the way in and would become lodged. I'll be sure to take a photo.

Damn...the comment about armadillos & the subsequent visualization caused me to nearly choke on my chocolate milk!

OK I need a little advice to get my plan of attack together. I've got the none aero bumper and prefer a more "finished" look then the rivet approach. I'm thinking on mounting the brake duct behind the cover and try to get a seamless look. One question I have is about the bumper cover material. How does it cut? Is it a fiberglass type material or plastic? I'm hopeing a plastic so that I can cut the opening just a little small, mounting the duct and use a trim router with a plastic laminate trim bit to fine trim the opening to the duct. Any thoughts on how the cover will react to being cut with a router?
I'm trying to get a junked cover for practice. If I can find one it might answer my questions. I need to find out who installs the aero kits aroung here and what they do with the old covers. Oh yeah,..what flexible 3M adhesive product was used on yours Gnatster? The 3M site list a few.

I have no idea as to the actual mix, all I know it is the stuff used for urathane bumper covers. It cures quickly, can be sanded after about an hour.

The cover being IDd as urethane helps a lot. I can probably pose the "which to use" question on 3M's web. Thanks for the help and inspiration.

Would be interesting to include some matching grills within the intakes - recessed slightly - to avoid anything getting in at the brake... although its probably not needed...

I have been running the ducts for a while now and never had any problem with debris getting in and doing damage, interfering, etc. I did have a problem when driving through 9inch deep water though--the ducts pumped water onto the brakes such that I had a little "can't stop" scare. Fortunately I was driving very slowly at the time...
