LEDs installed in our R56

I also mentioned this in another thread, but thought it was worth mentioning here...

We put together an LED kit for the R56. I put the Super White color in our shop car, although they're also available in red and blue.

They look like this:

Here's blue:

And red:

You can find the kits HERE.

Edit: I got my hands on a new Clubman the other day, so we have a kit for that now.

Dan you mention you mention you get 3 ... bulbs for the trunk and puddle lights, are the puddle lights still inverted as they were in the R53?

Inverted? The housings point toward the ground, if that's what you mean...the bulbs are positioned sideways in the housings.

the sideways part was what I was wondering about. I just went out and looked at mine, but thanks for the response!

what comes exaclty in your kit

how easy it is it to install

how do you pop off the lights i assume and replace the new ones

with 9 bulbs, will there be extra after we install the needed amount [what is the needed amount?]

Nine or ten replacement bulbs, depending on your car.

No harder than changing the original light bulbs. Pretty easy.

In most cases, you just snap off the lens for the bulb housing, remove the old bulb (caution, bulbs that were just lit are hot!), and place the new bulb in the same socket.

You get the exact amount of bulbs you need, no extras.

Mach V Dan,
does the 'red' match the color of the odometer?

i would really like a LED kit for the exterior (parking lights, rear fog lights, tail lights). any time soon?

undertow 05-24-2007 09:45 PM

Sorry for my ignorance, does this LED kit you're offering replace the Mood Lighting made available in the R56 MINIs? Or does the LED kit you have replace the map lights, dome light, puddle lights... all which are not affected by the Mood Lighting correct? Again sorry if this are completely obvious, as I don't have my car yet. Just preparing! :)

I really like the Red, and am wonder like the poster above me if it will match the interior lighting already in place and how it interacts with the mood lighting if it doesn't replace it. Last question I promise, if your kit does not replace the mood lighting is it possible to replace it? ie; I dont want orange, blue or purple, but would like red or white.

Kevin

No it does not replace the mood lighting. from all the ways I have looked at the car it would be hell to replace the mood lights but I may be wrong

No. As you can see in the pic, the odometer and audio display are more orange.

I still have to work out both fit and electrical resistance issues. I'll post here with updates.

Familiarstanger is right; it does not replace the mood lighting.

Correct.

It would be very difficult. The one in the roof is not a bulb that you can change out; it's a plastic light guide that disappears into the guts of the switch module. The ones in the doors and B-pillars are equally buried. My guess is that it's a soldered-in multi-color LED (or several) at each location, but I haven't seen it yet.

I can't believe I'm thinking about the red. I can't believe I'm thinking about this at all, actually.

I like the bright white, but red would allow you to keep your night vision. See, it's practical! Wonder how that'd work with the blue mood lights...hmmm...

Anyway, the site says you don't have the dome light panels for the R56, so how's it that we're seeing superwhite, red, or blue in the pics?

(love the DS/DS btw -- I almost went with that instead of DS/B)

mini creeper 05-25-2007 04:52 PM

let me know what size resistors you guys used on the exterior. i can't get used to that warning chime everytime i start my car.

i already did blue led's in my interior and it looks pretty good.

We don't have this thing for the R56 (yet):
Attachment 166274

But we do have normal bulbs, which work pretty well. The panel above is the brightest solution for a dome lamp, but a five-way high-output bulb isn't bad, and that's what we use for the R56. We use bulbs in all other locations in both cars -- the dome light in the R50/R53 is the only one that gets the item pictured above.

Thanks, Mach V Dan.............quick service.......the blue looks nice, although I have the dark headliner and it doesn't seem as bright as your photo's, But love the look  ........ Looking foward to whatever you come up with for the exterior............:)

OrneryDSMini 05-31-2007 12:46 PM

NICE!

Just ordered the blue kit... I'm going to have so much crap to install when my mini gets here it's not funny!

TheBigNewt 06-03-2007 09:40 AM

What/where are the "puddle lights"? (sorry for my ignorance).

familiarstranger 06-03-2007 10:18 AM

Newt, They are the lights in the underside of the doors

OrneryDSMini 06-06-2007 08:07 AM

Thanks Dan

Just wanted to give Dan and his boys there at Mach V a Thank You! Not too many businesses will ship to APO Boxes, but Dan went the extra mile for my order.
Thanks again and I can’t wait to see them in Ornery.
