<previously posted in General Countryman Talk>

For those that don't have the homelink mirror or a sunroof, this is a quick write up to install a garage door opener and maintain a factory look....

The PDF is in post #17 of this thread.....

Nicely done!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Tight integration. I'm impressed. Sadly, I have a sunroof toggle in that position, but maybe I could do it elsewhere...

That is a very good job, indeed. You can be proud of that.

CM51 07-25-2011 08:18 PM

Wow, nice job. Looks perfect.

Kosmo 01-30-2012 12:41 PM

Great mod! Id like to do this mod but Im curious if theres anywhere to source the stock switch itself for a totally stock look...? Every diagram I have checked shows the overhead switch console but that is as far as it breaks it down.

mjgood 01-30-2012 01:33 PM

I'm fairly sure you would need to order the the whole switch assembly that has the sunroof switch, as far as I know the switches themselves aren't sold separately... under the switch are rubber pressure contacts, in the past I have messed around with something similar only to find that the contacts won't work to carry current, but will only send a signal to a chip which in turn activates the circuit....

Kosmo 01-30-2012 01:42 PM

WMW has a used switch panel for $40 from a cabrio, I was considering giving it a shot, but it probably won't match anyway even it would work

eggmole 03-01-2012 10:31 AM

Great job!. All my switches are taken at the top, but has anyone tried to use or know where to find a momentary switch for the lower buttons on the dash. Where the sport and fog light buttons are located. This would be the ideal spot if i can keep it looking somewhat factory.

Has anyone ever tried to order or install the factory autodimming mirror? Cost? or one of the aftermaket mirror brands? Might be hard to find one the same style or shape.

bigdog100 05-23-2012 09:02 AM

I have the middle space open for a switch, where can I order a switch with the transmitter brain? Never mind I see it on the PDF.

Sorry, could you repost the PDF file? For some reason it keeps sending me to iCloud and won't let me open the link.

Apple has discontinued the MobileMe site, the file is too large to attach to this site so I put it on Rapid Share.... here is the link https://rapidshare.com/files/1663732...e_Door_R60.pdf

Thanks! This mod is amazing.

Has anyone used a device called 'Flash2Pass' integrated garage door opener? I saw it posted on MiniMania. It's a device that allows you to remotely open the garage door by flashing your bright lights twice. $99 and it claims quick and easy do-it-yourself installation.
Any comments or suggestions regarding it?

Thanks!

A guy with one suggested it to me in this thread.

Sounds like one happy customer. Thanks for directing me there. Going to purchase it now.

Would you be so kind as to check your Rapidshare account. The link leads to a non-exhistent file and I'm itching to hook up the switch. Thanks...

Fantastic. This is great. I really appreciate this. Thanks! I know what I'll be doing next weekend...

Very cool idea; wondering if there's somewhere in that module that you could use for power and remove the need for the battery.

It's attached in post #17 by mjgood. Use a web browser, since the link does not show up on NAMotoring app

fentos 03-30-2013 10:31 AM

That was the problem. Thank you very much! Looking forward to reading and possibly doing this with our CM!

Is there a write-up on how to remove overhead console?

bmwr606 12-17-2015 09:52 PM

After Market Garage Door Opener

kashtan

goto ecstuning.com

find the "full interior LED conversion" page

scroll to bottom of page and download the installation .pdf file

it contains how to fully dismantle the overhead console ... with photos

ECSTuning 12-18-2015 05:23 AM

Here you go, thanks for the mention bmwr606 :)

Thanks. I have F56. So, the instructions for R60 may not exactly match my case.
The guide suggests pry off console on the rear and that's what I tried first. However it was clear something else is holding it.
It would be helpful to know specific locations of clips/latches/screws on F56, before I apply too much force and break it.

ECSTuning 12-18-2015 02:06 PM

Thought you had an R60 based off your in the Countryman section.

Here is the diagram for the over head in F56

headliner:

Rear view mirror:

Overhead:

Overhead switch : #2

bmwr606 12-18-2015 02:53 PM

i assumed R60 also based on posting in R60 area

Thanks. My bad, sorry. This thread was on the same topic, I'm pretty sure the dis-assembly instructions would be similar.

Thanks for the parts listings, it was helpful. Although I'm really interested on how to get to these parts.

I've managed to remove the cover of the overhead console, it was hanging on the 4 latches, 2 on each side. These has to be pushed or otherwise easy to break/twist. Yet, after uncovering the base, I still can't figure out what it's attached to, or how to remove it. There are no screws that I can find, and the whole thing feels not attached to a body, but more likely to the headliner, since it moves with it.

My goal is to remove the overhead panel, so I can add my own switch and tap into electrical behind the console.

The ball shaped mounting for the rear-view mirror possibly also has wiring I can tap into, although I didn't order the auto-dimming mirror, so that's questionable. Yet again, it's not clear how to open it up.

I realize many things are clip-on now, but the plastic is too week. Apply force in the wrong place and it's broken, instead of detached intact.

Yea, The diagrams are above, once you have the 11 digit part number , just copy and paste to our site in the search box. www.ecstuning.com

Try to open things up and just be careful, with little trim tools or some small flat head screwdriver help.
