It's coming to the point where this whole thing is a huge political mess.

I may be taking the head-in-the-sand approach to this, but I really don't care who owns it as long as we get at least *one* racetrack on the islands. The SORT guys seem content to pee all over their own feet and distance themselves from the rest of the racing community - fine. The rest of us I think all just want a facility at which we can safely enjoy our hobby.

the plot thickens...

--Nice find Feedback! So M.O. and partners were able to finangle 65 million from an airport fund back in 93 to keep the track. Now that was under the Waihee regime. There is NO way that Lingle would let that slide.

Doesn't change my opinion of M.O. and associates. Except that he's got some huge kahones to ****-a-roach money from a federal program. So they're underhanded and sneaky? So what? The fact of the matter is that he pulled it off. He's probably got something else cooking to make the track refurb happen too that isn't known just yet.

Someone once told me that millionaires and billionaires hardly ever get to where they are by being nice guys or sticking to their principles or by doing what is "right". Underhanded and sneaky is how a lot of business is done in Hawaii. Hawaii business and politics are very similar to southern politics. It's not what you know, it's WHO you know that gets you far in Hawaii.

I still support keeping a racing facility open and building a new track, but I wish the players names were different.

When I first got to Hawaii, I noticed that the politics reminded me a lot of how things were done back in Missouri. It may have been north of the Mason-Dixon line, but it was sure as hell the deep south.

It's like all this new airport rennovation stuff coming up. It'll happen, it'll be late, over budget..and then 12 years later we'll have some scandal and another dozen city council members will go off to jail.

The track has too much politics behind it and it is really, really dirty stuff as some of you have finally found out. That is why I'm staying out of it.

I wonder what happened to the NSX that was garaged at Washington Place. It was supposedly Tom Enomoto's, but the Gov had it because there was no other place to park it. Waihee was also an avid racer and spent quite a few days at the track.

As the_beastmaster noted in another thread, the House Bill was not even heard thanks to Rep. Hanabusa. However, the Senate Bill (SB1734) was heard and passed with a 2/3s majority vote this afternoon. Now it heads to conference!

Thank you for your email. I have received others that are identical.

As Mr. Oakland has said, he can build the race track without the tax
credit. HB 994 is a tax credit and has nothing to do with whether or
not the racing facility can be built.
