Evo school went well this past weekend.
Phase 1 and 2 were completely full and Challenge had 21 drivers.
As always instructors were top notch great and the weather was also good the entire time.
Each day, drivers had 24 or more runs and it ran the full time to 5pm or slightly longer.
If you plan to do more than one day, you should know it can be very tiring.
Several drivers were first timers to performance driving and did very well chopping over 10 seconds off their run time down to about 31 seconds at the end of the day.
Next time Evo School will be in Hawaii is January 2019, see you there.

SCCA Hawaii is planning to sponsor Evolution driving school for MLK weekend January 2019 with mainland instructors for three days during that weekend.
Now is the time to mark your calendars and plan ahead.
Day one is usually Phase 1 good for all new drivers, teen drivers or family members that want to learn car control and the basics of autocross driving. Focus is more on safety and learning how to drive well rather than racing.
Day 2 is more intermediate and requires completion of Phase 1 previously (even if two years ago) but doing Phase 1 the day before is a good refresher to prepare for Phase 2. Students are given more difficult things to work on and will be busy all day driving. Expect about 30 runs total.
Day 3 is to be determined but could be an advanced course if there is enough interest or a practice test and tune day.
If you have questions then post them.
Sign up online begins in October and can fill up fast especially for Phase 1 since there is a 30 driver limit. Any car is fine expect for those with high center of gravity and roll over risk like SUV, lifted cars/trucks or Minivans.

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...ium-evo-208466

Evo school is filling up. Phase 2 on Sunday and Test and Tune on monday still open only a few spots left.
Don't be left in the 'dust", sign up before the limit is reached.
Phase one is full. Waitlist is possible.
Great for teen drivers, family members who drive your MINI or to learn car control.

Phase 1 on Saturday is at 29 currently. Limit of 30 so keep checking back. Waitlist is possible. Was full earlier. Phase 2 is still open
Test and tune on monday is open and anyone can do this. Costs less but you have less runs and less structured instruction but there are great instructors to learn from. Great chance to run multiple cars, just get them to event and do tech inspection. Run a different car in each heat.

Now getting closer to MLK weekend
Phase 1 is full with 31 signed up but you can still be on waitlist in case of cancellations.
Phase 2 and TnT are both still open.
For new drivers the TnT is good with more or less open driving, less runs but costs less at $125 for the day. Instructors available but no structure to the day, just drive the course and get feedback and tips. Likely course will be set up with optional turns and slaloms to practice various strategies.

Evolution driving school went very well for 2019 and the next is planned for 2 years.
Although the instructors were many of the same ones there were a few changes and some fresh approaches.
The courses are basically the same Phase 1 and 2 but with evolving emphasis on what to work on.
Also for those that have done the courses more than once instructors will work on individual things on demand beyond the basics.
Instructors mentioned that in some regions they will get up to 8 experienced national champion drivers attend a Phase 2 course as students to learn more.
I did notice the layout of the courses are specifically done to teach the skills relevant to the levels. In Phase 2 there is some thought put in to the layout to change it's direction so it becomes a different course and more difficult.

Great news-
Every two years SCCA Hawaii tries to sponsor a driving School. In the past decade this was Evolution Driving School with mainland instructors.
But due to restrictions in travel and unsure availability of our driving site we did not have an Evo School in January. So Hawaii region SCCA is doing their own event limited to 30 drivers.
However we are now pleased to announce we are going to have one on June 13 which you can register for and includes two levels- one for beginners and emphasizes car control and novice autocross driving which is suitable to family members or teens and the other level for intermediate autocross drivers that want to learn more and get serious practice done in a full day of instruction.
Let me know if you have questions-
