So, 15x6.5?
Any thoughts on light wheels that come in 4x100 and 15x6.5 for 2014?
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/resul...rSpecial=false Here's what came up from Tire Rack. Or perhaps 16x7 is possible as well? Not sure on that one. |
I'm pretty sure 16x7 will be legal - 17x7 is an option from the factory so I think that counts
Thoughts on 15x6.5 vs 16x7? |
Also, what is the widest tire you can fit on the base Mini?? Can we fit 225s??
looks like 225/45 on 16" wheels may be possible - 225/45-16's overall height is almost identical to 175/16-15 - so this should fit perfectly. |
On my 09, I had been running 205/50/16 Z1's on 16x6.5. I just picked up a set of 225/45/16 Z2's and while they fit on the 16x6.5 they are pinched a bit. Steering feel seems a bit more numb. Only two events on them, both in the wet. I'm sure they would be happier on wider rim. If it was an option for the 09's (I'm not sure it is), I'd want the 7" rim (appears to an option for the last couple of years). So, 225s fit, but I have no proof they are any faster or slower than a 205 of the same tire (Z2).
I'd be concerned with trying the 15's for fear of needing to upshift to 3rd frequently, especially for higher speed venues (nationals type events). Would definitely be an advantage for slower/tighter courses. Another upside would be additional tire selection. When I ran against Jack Burns locally this year, he was on 225/45/16 Z2's (16x6.5 wheel). |

If it fits on the 16x6.5, even pinched, it will definitely fit on 16x7 - that'll add about 12.7 more mm. Good to hear there's no rubbing for the 225/45-16s though - it's actually almost a perfect match to the stock (175/65-15) as far as overall diameter goes. I think I'm pretty set on going with 16x7 here though. RPF1s are looking like the most "reasonable" option |
I've used 205/55/15's on stock 15 inch spooler wheels. The handle great!

They do fit. I have photos if you are interested. They hang over a little. Its an aggressive stance and cornering is great. Also it has very little speedo error. Your 195/55 have more error.

i'd love a pic just to see - no rubbing through the full range of movement? what suspension are you on? and yea the error is like .07% lol it's perfect |
I'm considering running an H-Street Mini for 2014, so I've been looking at wheel options as well. Looks like the Rota Circuit 10 might be a good budget option:

If you have larger brakes then you may need more offset than 45.

if you really want to take advantage of 15s you should find a way lighter wheel than that. i'm the OP, i've actually decided to go with a 16x7, I think the extra sidewall may be worth it for street tires
http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/1332879-post7.html Curious, what is your reason for wanting to go with 16x7's? |

They should work on any car that originally came with 15" wheels, no? Backspacing is almost the same as the stock 15" wheels, (within about 2mm.)
|
Not all the time. I called the Rota retailer and they didn't recommend Rota 15's for my car. A lower offset may work better. The back of the wheels are different so all 45 offsets don't work.

The brake clearance depends on the wheel design. I just got some Rota Slipstreams (15x6.5, et40), there's a lot less clearance around the calipers (like about 5-10mm) than with my SSR Type-Cs (16x6.5 et42), which have inches of space.

So eta35 would be a safer bet then? Further from the caliper.

Not as light as the Volks, but also 1/2 the price.

That looks pretty good. What are they, and where did you get them?
