I've tried both Porterfield R4S and Hawk HPS on my Cooper, and prefer the Hawks. The Hawks are cheaper. The Hawks stay "good" until they get really hot, then they dissappear fast. The Porterfields lose their braking ability more gradually, but it starts sooner. I prefer the Hawks mainly for that reason. Other people may be more comfortable with the gradual decline in brake power.
Of course, I used different rotors for the two pads (cryo treated plain rotors for the Hawks, and the Texas Speedwerks rotors with the Porterfields). I don't know to what extent the rotors affect the brake performance.

Keith, all,
How much brake dust do you get with the DS2500's?
Also- how good/bad are the stock pads? (i.e. how well would those work for an occasional AutoX?)
I do like Ferodos -I run DS3000's as track pads on my Impreza. I imagine the DS2500's would work great, especially on a car that's 550+ lbs lighter!

I've use Green Stuff and Textar pads.
The Green stuff seemed to work well on for Street and AutoCross but did suffer fade on the track after a couple of hot laps...
The Textar seem to hold up better on the track as far as fade was concerned but they only lasted 5000 Miles !!!
and that was One track day and a couple of Autocrosses ... i'll be looking for something else ...
Maybe try the Ferodo

Which makes me curious Saturn5... Where on the East/West course were the brakes an issue? I am interested in the details of the problem you encountered which prompts this inquiry. I know you did not have a close encounter with the Porta-Pottie in the "Spin, Flip & Die" element on the East Course, right?
Kind regards,
Charlie

Yep - me too. Even running the A6. Next year with less traction I'll have to be even more gentle with the OEM brakes to ensure I never trip the anti-lock.
