F56 GP Tuning
Hello guys I’m new here. I installed the JCW Pro exhaust on my GP and woow. That’s how the car should have come from factory. The stock exhaust sounds like a lawn mower. My leaf blower sounds better then the stock exhaust. I also just installed the Millitek DP and woow what a changer.
So now the question. Have any of you thought about tuning the car? I am inclined for a JB4 for now. Any thoughts? |
Yes, it is a wonderful addition, the sound is awesome. The next step is to put it on a dyno to see if the JCW PRO exhaust adds any horsepower and torque to the GP. It really does not need more horsepower as you can't adequately use what it is has stock with the factory setup. Still, it is a fun car to drive and with the throaty sound with the pro exhaust it is a great backroads speedster.

When testing, the difference is around 17 hp difference when open to closed ;-)

Has anyone tried the NM Engineering tuning box?

Fitted to my car yesterday. I have it on mode 2 (Race Mode). There is a "hiccup" at lower throttle settings. I will flipping to mode 1 tomorrow to see if it goes away. Here is a write up I did awhile ago comparing the NM Engineering Module and the Racechip:

Is BM3 flash compatible on the GP3? If so, can we get someone to work on a map for it? Happy to chip in for the time and effort especially if we can get a group buy setup.

@Lou@Prototype-R has done tuning in 3rd gen F56s, but not sure if he’s done any GP3s. Maybe shoot him a quick note?

Thanks, sent an inquiry to Lou.

Leaning towards JB4 if we get no love on a BM3 or flash tune. For the power level bump, I think JB4 is ideal for 40-50HP bump on a plug and play piggyback that does not touch the ECU.

Any luck?
Sent a follow up with regards to a possible timetable for the remote solution and will share what I hear. |
Did he say what platform he's using for the tune?

Update as well.. Reached out to DME tuning in NJ.. Cost is $3K and they will ship DME to FEMTO to unlock and then do the customized tuning locally. Unless the direct tuning from FEMTO is cost effective, think JB4 is the way to go for some additional ponies.

FEMTO’s unlock by itself is like $1,000. DME Tuning is highly respected as they are one of the few companies that can crack and tune ECUs for Ferris and Lambos. That is why their “custom tunes” are so expensive. |
Cool.. Will take a look later today. I am pretty sure is it's going to be after June 2020 as our car # is 2972

It's been a minute since I've posted here but do have an update. I'm running the Eventuri intake, AIRTEK intercooler and the NM-Engineering module. The module is set on low. I will NEVER set it to high. With this combination on the DYNO in May the GP3 came in at 340WHP and 343 ft lbs for torque.
Pros: Crazy fun to drive but only in temperatures above 65F. Set the cruise at 70MPH and you will get 40MPG all day long. Excellent road trip MINI due to how comfortable the seats are. Logged 4,260 miles with MINI Takes the States. The ability to completely crush an M3 on The Dragon is hilarious. Also the GP3 lives for The Dragon. Make sure you drive it in GP Mode!! Cons: No real traction below 60F with the Ventus tires. Scary understeer at temps below 50F. Launch control is pretty much useless as the tire just smoke off the line. You will pedal the throttle a lot when taking off with hard acceleration. The Ventus tires are one season tires, meaning they'll last one season. City driving lowers the MPG to around 22-24 MPG. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...e2abb1dbe0.jpg |
I had the same issue with traction. I upgraded to Nankang CRS 235/40/18 on stock wheels and it solved the traction issue completely. You can also add 12mm spacers all around for a perfect flush fitment with no rubbing.
The OE Hankooks are TRASH. |
I am running 245/35/18 Michelin Pilot AS4+ on 18x8.5 Enkeis.. No more torque steer and lots of all weather traction :)
|
I have no issue with the Hankooks. They do exactly what they're designed for on the GP3. I tried others but quickly realized that the reason I lost torque steer is because I lost the grip of the Ventus tires. I also lost braking ability. I'm not willing to add the unsprung weight of larger tires as that affects overall braking, handling and power. Also not interested in changing the geometry of the suspension by adding spacers, which also adds addition unsprung weight.
I've never had a performance issue with the Hankooks. Not a single slip, slide or break in traction when operating under the proper conditions. Keeping in mind that the Hankook Ventus tires are summer only so once the temperature drops the performance of the tires is greatly affected. You must know the limitations of the GP3 with respect the the road and weather conditions. This was not known by a driver in New Hampshire back in October 2022 which resulted in the loss of both the driver and GP3. :( |
