Has anyone tried this aftermarket cruise control? I did a search on the site and didn't find it, looks like it would work for the Mini as it uses the data on the CAN bus to run the drive by wire throttle and also picks up the speed and brake signal from the bus. I'm not an expert but I read through the install manual and it seems like it should work. Links below to the product and the install manual.

This is a link to an application guide where the MINI is listed. It is highlighted in yellow which indicates there is no wire harness adapter and instead a solder connection needs to be made (assuming they are talking about connecting to the CAN hi and CAN low wires, but not sure).

Why not just get the factory cruise control activated? Lots of people have done it. Just needs a steering wheel with controls and coding

 

Everything I've looked at says the dealer can't get the right code from MINI to enable cruise on the GP. Would this have to be done by an aftermarket performance shop or are the dealers actually able to do it?

Read the Wayworks posts on their kit and the other posts, definitely looks like the dealers can't re-code to make it work. Other than driving to Atlanta (I'm in MN) to have them install and code, don't have any other options for doing the factory parts, which is why I was looking at this aftermarket part. If it can learn the CANbus as they suggest, might be an easy win.

 

yes, dealers CAN add the VO code. Finding one who WILL is the challenge.

That said - the BMW/Mini aftermarket is full of shops who know how to use NCSExpert (same hardware, same software, same process between BMW and Mini. they just need to know which code to add and which modules to reload and to have the right datum files)

There are also folks who will walk you through the process, or even do it remotely (not sure the exact process those guys use - but shipping a laptop and cable and using teamviewer/etc is not that hard).
