GP or 2016 Hardtop S

Hi folks I am debating if to pick up a 13' GP with 4K miles or a 2016 Cooper S 4 door in manual. Both are very close in price (around 30K). Have any of you crossed shopped a new S with the 13 GP? I have driven both but at different times. I drove the GP 2 years ago and there are none in my area so I can't drive one now. I remember it to be extremely enjoyable to drive. In comparison, the new one is more refined, BMW like. I would appreciate any input.
Thanks!

Hard to compare the two, as they serve different needs. I'd rather have a car with a new warranty unless I planned on racing the car. Btw I wouldn't pay more than 25k for the gP2, that seems closer to actual selling prices.

Thank you... In terms of daily driving, I assume you would recommend the S?
The GP is just so sweet... nothing quite like it.

Has it been reliable for you?

I don't own one. I watched a used one locally linger for months at 29k and they slowly drop to 25k and someone grabbed it. I wouldn't buy a 25k mini without a longer warranty period. I'm also far past my prime on driving a hot car like a GP.

You are better off comparing a new JCW to a GP.

You wouldn't buy without a warranty even with 4K miles? Are there such serious issues with this car?

The only real issues that are known on the GP2 are the front struts and the N18 oil pressure solenoid leak.

Otherwise it's a super solid car that should last a long while without any issues. I had one, and loved it - problem is, I didn't drive it enough to justify keeping it.

I just made this choice myself, staying with the GP or ordering a new mini. I personally do not care for the new ones after driving an S and a JCW. Great cars, don't get me wrong, but I love how the R56 line drives, feels and looks better.

I daily drive my GP until winter and it's no problem at all, especially minus the run-flats the ride is surprisingly good. Makes the commute a lot more fun!

Wow this is great info! May I ask you if you live in a big/small town? I live in Los Angeles and the roads/traffic are horrible.

I just got my GP 887 about 4 weeks ago. What a blast of a car. I live in Dana Point,CA. In the 4 weeks, I road the backroad hills of San Diego and a road trip to Las Vegas. I almost got a newer JCW and the GP is not the same. It's the lack of gadgets, the rear seats... And yes that backfire sound on sport mode that made me pick the GP. It's bone stock right now.

I daily drive my GP2. Have over 30K miles on it. The car hasn't given me any major trouble. The car is just so simple, tossable, and light, that it's a real purist car. I have owned/own a lot of special /fun cars and the GP2 holds a special place.

GP1
Cayman R
1 M
X6M

Cayman R... talk about purist... do you still have it? How is it?
I am getting out of a 2015 X5M now Too expensive!

Still will be using an LS460 on most days.

I live north of Boston and have to drive towards Boston for work so traffic can be horrible. No issues for me plus the large brakes help for those sudden almost rear ending someone moments

The Cayman R is really nice. Great NA engine that likes to rev. It's light aswell - 2850 lbs. The values have held up well too. Very basic like the GP. The R is a better car, but I have to say the GP is a close second. Where the R is precise, it can also be kinda sterile in that Porsche way. The GP is lesser, but seems more fun!

The X6 M is a monster. It reminds me of a GTR, lots of electro-nannies, physics bending abilities, but is practical. But, the size, weight and the 8 speed auto are turn offs.

If you are in the Orange County area I will let you drive my GP2 and you will have a whole new perspective…muwhahaha. You will forever be changed when you feel what a properly tuned GP2 is like...

Where in the OC are you? I might take you up on your offer! I need to try and drive one before I decide and all the ones I have been looking at are far away...
