To GP or not to GP...

So I was all set to buy a Roadster S in the spring. I had already chosen a color (spice orange with black stripes and wheels). But I visited a MINI dealer today and met the GP and it was love at first sight. So now the question is.....To GP or not to GP?

I currently have a 1st Gen Convertible S and love riding with the top down. But the rarity of the GP and the incredible handling has me thinking about purchasing the hardtop.

Thoughts?

I'm bias, but I'd say go with the GP.

We can add cruise to it so it's not a deal breaker.

I am leaning that way.....just need a little push.

BTW, you guys did the tuning on my first MINI, an 06 Hyper Blue S Hardtop. That thing was a rocket and a blast to drive!

Did you test drive the GP2? That may help to clarify the decision. I use it as a daily driver, and it's been fantastic.

Hands down. Do the GP. If only for the rarity of it. Since you said you have another MINI I'm assuming you'd use that as a daily driver? Or would you trade it in for the GP?

Well....we actually have another "daily driver", a Honda Accord V6 coupe, as we all know the MINI is hard on you when driving long distances on the interstates. Lol. So my current MINI will be traded and my new MINI will be my daily driver for running errands etc. Just not sure the GP will be practical for that. I do know that I will have room for my suitcase in the boot of the GP when driving to the airport though! My current MINI requires removing the windscreen for the bag to fiy. Lol

Hmmm for errands. I guess it depends on what types of errands you'll be running! If you're going grocery shopping for example, I imagine the GP would do you just fine. If you're going to your local IKEA to haul some furniture home....... well, some people enjoy the challenge??

LMAO. Just groceries. We have a truck for those ikea runs. As for challenges, you should see me trying to get a week's worth of groceries into the tiny boot of my MINI now. Lol

I have 11k miles on mine, about 7k of that from long interstate trips. No issues with the GP in any scenario.

I have owned a convertible (not a MINI) and had sunroofs in numerous cars. Don't miss either.

I have never driven a Roadster S though.

Still i can't find anything i don't love about my GP!!!

I drove to Chicago to buy my GP, drove it back without a hitch.

It really isn't that bad on the interstate, even without cruise.

I wondered about the lack of cruise control when i bought my GP. It was the first car i have owned since the 1970s without cruise.

Not having cruise control keeps you much more engaged in your driving.

GP seems great and all for the fun drive, but you will eventually need that back seat and storage area... You'll miss it when you don't have it. :P

This.

My first two vehicles didn't have cruise, and it never bothered me, and it does keep you more attentive to the road in front.

For what?

I hate people in my back seat.

Well and like you stated, you have another vehicle for that.

Haha, just a week's worth of groceries?? Tetris skills, my friend! We buy two weeks' worth and can still fit a bit more, depending on what we buy.

I do?

We have a 2-MINI household - we rarely subject anyone to the torture of riding in the back of the other one, either.

The Roadster S doesn't have a back seat either...

Is the Roadster S due for a refresh in 2015. The F56 interior is quite an improvement over the R56 in comfort and electronics.

Still i would vote for the GP.

The Roadster is a carryover in 2015, and will likely be the last year for it.

I asked you in the other thread where in Chicago you bought your GP. I knew I saw that you posted it someplace!! Haha. Not going crazy after all.
