Yokohama AD08R?

Hi all, new member here. Wondering if anyone has tried the AD08R? I saw a couple of mention of the old AD08 but not the newer R that has only been around for a few months. I'm keen to hear your view of this tyre compared to the Kumhos if you have tried them on the GP. Thanking in advanced!

I can't compare these to the Kumhos, as I picked up the car with the AD08Rs on the car already, but I've found them to be spectacular tires thus far.

I've put 3 autocross events on them already, they grip well, wear well, and they're relatively quiet on the road, too.

You are the guy who traded his Mk6 GTI for the GP? Good trade! And thanks, good to know that it's a good tyre on this car. Hopefully the turn in doesn't dull compared to the Kumhos. What is the size of yours btw? I'm assuming there is only 215/45 and not the OE size of 215/40?

Mine are 215/40s.

And yes, that'd be me. Loving the car so far, picked it up with 3500 miles on the 5th of July, already put 1500 on it (800 of that was driving back from Chicago ).

Can't have been too comfortable driving such long distance in our GP! And I don't know how I miss this. There is 215/40s for the AD08R. I don't know why not more owners have tried this.

Actually, I was rather impressed. Aside from the lack of cruise control, the car was great on the highway. Didn't take much getting used to at all.

Of course, the GTI was better for long highway slogs, but the GP is WAY more fun.

I could be wrong but I think the stock kumhos have relatively soft side walls compared to other r tires. And with advan tires usually having stiff side walls, I wouldn't be surprised if the advans have better turn in than the stock kumhos but of course less grip.

The Advans are a totally different animal when compared to the stock Kumhos, which are about as close as you can get to a full race tire without getting your eyes wet.

180 treadwear vs 50 treadwear is a very significant difference in overall roadholding ability.

That being said, these grip very tenaciously, even in an autocross setting.

I have them in 215/45 R17. I usually put them on the night before an autocross so I can drive to the event and not hassle with wheel changes at the event. They work well for me!

With this size, are you still able to lower the car without rubbing issues?
