A huge thanks to Gil-Galad and BlueToy for answering my many questions before placing my order!

The steer wheel is hand made in Turkey (http://stores.ebay.com/NEXON-MOTORS ) and take about 6 weeks to fabricate. As someone already pointed out they are stupid expensive BUT they are beautiful and feel wonderful to hold onto. The new wheel is thicker than the stock wheel. It has a slightly larger indent in the back at the 9 and 3 positions that allow your fingers to fit very comfortably which is my preferred grip. Because of the extra thickness the overall feel is less tiring over a long drive. The 10 and 2 position is also very comfortable.

The steering / handling feels lighter and I’m not sure if it’s because:
• The wheel is lighter than the stock (?) – now that sounds silly
• The wheel is more comfortable to hold
• My imagination

They can be ordered in a slightly smaller diameter which I got (about 1” smaller than the stock wheel) or the same diameter as the stock wheel. Actually because they are custom made I’m guessing you can have pretty much what you darn well please.

May be a nice belated Mother’s Day present… or upcoming Father’s Day…

 

That is pretty awesome. Was the install difficult or did it just bolt right in?

 

Thanks V10climber. Actually my dealer installed it because i am not a mechanic. Gil-Galad installed his without any problems though.

The dealer did the install in about 15 minutes.

 

Oh I like the flat bottom. With my racing seats I'm always catching the wheel getting out.

First off, it is your money and well, good for you buying a wheel that would perform worse than the factory one. The stock one has more grip than smooth carbon fiber so that should be reliable with sweaty hands in an emergency.

I myself would have gotten say, lighter wheels, camber plates, harness bars...

Secondly you would have to be a moron to pay 40k for a MINI of any kinda. I paid less thank 28k out the door with 9k miles which was less than a new fully optioned MINI.

 

GP2 is around 40k, man c'mon is not your car is a track car if you don't like it just move on, you don't think that he can afford all of that?

 

What'd you do with the old wheel? I'm interested..

Not trying to kick a dead horse here, but I tend to agree about the loss of grip with a smooth surface on the wheel. It looks great, don't get me wrong. Flat bottom...superb. But I wouldn't want to replace my stock wheel unless I was at least maintaining the same amount of tackiness/grip.

When the wheel in my race car (it's a momo alcantara wheel) gets worn down and shiny, I work a little sandpaper to toughen it up.

And out here in this desert climate, there's nothing worse than jumping in your parked car to find you can't even touch the wheel without gloves. Leather beats walnut, rubber and carbon fiber in this climate.
