Looking at a GP2 coming from a 335 Need your guys input
Hey guys, Im looking at getting a leftover GP. and most everyone on the BMW forum is calling me gay or asking if my wife likes it... So here i am. My dealer has two and is offering me a decent deal on it.
What I'm wondering is what are you guys running 0-60? I know this is a great handling car but coming from my 335 ( JB4 running 40% e85, downpipes, intakes etc) The car is pretty quick 0-60 in low 4's. I see terry releases a stage one for the mini which I see a few of you have already. Whats the change like from your stock gp ? Can you run e85 and does the jb adjust with your mods? I drove one last week and it was pretty peppy but not what Im used to.
My 335 just came out of warranty and I'm pretty backwards on it so with the low .9 financing right now its an easy way out of my 335. If work goes well this year the mini will most likely just sit in the garage a lot and I want to order one of the new m3's spring 2015. Please feel free to say anything to help me decide. I really think the biggest thing right now holding me back is the 5.9 0-60... But having almost no chance of seeing the same car anywhere else on the road makes me all happy inside.
This won't be my DD. I have a Tundra for work, and a 2001 530 E39 for when i need more room.

I have a 1M , so performance similar to your 335 but with better handling.
I also have a new GP so I can give you some insight.
With the GP you will have twice the handling with 75% of the straight line performance. On tight tracks like Streets of Willow Springs not even a 1M or M3 will give the GP any trouble, but on long tracks like Big Willow, the GP will have a hard time keeping up with the big horse power cars, when there is room, there is no substitute for HP.
This is all assuming that the GP is running it's stock sticky tires or better, on standard street tires the GP is a different car, still good but the tires make it a great car.

From your post you seem very concerned with the 0-60 time. If that is your biggest concern a MINI may not be right. MINIs are not about drag racing. Yes we can make them pretty quick, but MINIs are for the curves and the drive not just straight line racing. Your friends from the BMW obviously don't get it as most have them have never put their car on a track. We run our MINI with BMWCCA at the track all the time and I tell you the only guys that try to make fun are the new guys. Then after they time a couple laps of ours they shut their mouth real quick.
I have a GP2 as my street car and love it, and I've done a few things to make it faster, but it's not a drag car. If I want a drag car I'll build a blown mustang.
If you've driven it and enjoy it for the drive and don't care what your friends think, or want to make new MINI friends go for it. If you drive it and don't think it's fast enough in a straight line find something that is, don't try to make it something it isn't. You'll spend a bunch of money to not be happy.

Previous JB4 1M owner here. Going to a GP was definitely a step back in terms of straight line acceleration but the GP makes up for it in the handling department. To tell you the truth, I don't really miss the off the line performance these days. This thing is a go cart and such a blast to DD. With the JB+ you can run 30% E85. Add some down pipes, FMIC and free up the exhaust and you'll be pretty happy with what you get IMO. Remember, this car is featherweight compared to your 335i. I say get it! It also sounds like the JB+ could morph into a JB4 platform in the future which would be outstanding. Mine is for sale if interested. Only has 4k miles. Wish I could keep it but I need more room for my kids.

Im liking terrys jb options so Im going to try and make a deal and hopefully bring home number 361. By the time i trade in my 335 which I bought at the wrong time and am pretty backwards on it should work out to paying sticker price for the mini so lets see what happens!

I came from an E92 N54 as well so I know where you're coming from. I still lurk E90post and I admit, the crowd there isn't like what it used to be, especially in the SoCal region of that forum.
Anyways, I lemoned the E92 (HPFP 3x) and went into a R56 Cooper S and it may not be a GP2, but it's been modded quite a bit so it may not have the off-the-line power of my old E92 (JB3 back then), it's just so much more fun and nimble and when I do sit in an E92 I almost feel like I'm on a boat. The sensation and enjoyment fizzles when I get back into it.
If you're in SoCal you can definitely drive my MINI and feel the difference between it and an E92. My MINI has NA throttle and power. Such a different animal.
