Considering GP

As the title says I am considering purchasing a Mini JCW GP. My wife currently has a 13 Roadster S (her 3rd mini) and I absolutely love driving the car. I havnt driven a GP Yet (I will today) but my wife has and she absolutely loved it. The only thing Im hesitant about is selling my 2012 Shelby GT500 in order to buy the Mini. Am I crazy for even considering this?

I'm guessing if you are even thinking about it, you don't like your 200mph Shelby.
They are 2 totally different machines. Good luck with your ride as I think you will be giving up the Shelby. Will they take it in on trade? Good luck and keep us posted.

I would keep the GT500 and drive the wife's mini on the weekends and/or trade for a day on a weekday.

The GT500 handles, brakes, and accelerates exceptionally well. You will miss the power of the GT500.

Thanks for your input :). I do like the Shelby a lot but it hasnt been getting very much use lately. I recently purchased a Boss 302 that I kinda like driving better on the street than the Shelby. Yes they will take it in on trade but I dont have a value yet. I will keep yall posted as to what happens.

Keep the Shelby. Sell an organ instead:nod:

Yes thats exactly what Im afraid of. I do have other fast cars but the Shelby is brutally fast (its not stock). With that being said I never use it. It seems the slower the car I have the faster I drive :). As I get older the driving feel and fun factor is becoming more important than raw power.

Boss 302 + GT500 = one lucky guy

Boss 302 - GT500 + Mini GP = one lucky guy

I wish I had your dilemma.

Wow did he take a beating. I was offered more than that for my 2yr old 2012. Im still debating what to do. The wife is pushing hard for me to keep the Shelby but I really do like the GP.

quikmni 04-09-2013 02:03 PM

At first I was thinking keep the Shelby because you would have two different cars to drive depending on your mood or trip. But then I read you also have a Boss 302 so two Mustangs and one Mini. So now I am thinking that you should sell one of the Mustangs and buy a GP.

grymni 04-09-2013 05:39 PM

It looks like Im buying myself a GP.

BSTINS 04-09-2013 05:59 PM

Good choice. Go for the GP.

Keep us posted on what the dealer offers you for your GT500 trade-in.

Ok. Will post it after deal is complete.

Well I couldnt do it, I couldnt give up the Shelby. The dealer wanted my car back to stock, so this morning I drove to the shop that works on my Mustangs to pull the mods off. After the 30 min. drive to the shop I had changed my mind. Luckily I still get to experience Mini ownership through my wife. The Mini community is second to none and a huge part of the fun of owning one of these cars. Thanks to everyone who offered advice it was much appreciated.

Why can't we all know what mods you have :)

I don't blame you though, that sounds like a pretty nasty car and you should keep it if you can. Maybe get rid of the 302 and get a GP for the daily :)

No reason why yall cant know :). Its a 2012 with the 2.3 TVS blower that is used on the 2013 and 2014 GT500. It also has American Racing long tube headers with a high flow catted h-pipe. Everything else is stock including the intake. The car made 660whp.

It crossed my mind for a second to trade the Boss but Ive only had it a few months and I would take a huge hit on it.

I know every time I see a GP Im gonna wonder if I made the right choice, they really are an awesome car.

TimB 04-11-2013 06:18 AM

You made the right call.

Yah but I am having second thoughts. Stupid Mini's why do they have to be so much fun .

TimB 04-11-2013 08:40 AM

I'm not saying it's not a dilemma but Shelby versus Mini in my mind is pretty clear cut if it involves trading in a car. I've traded plenty of modded cars only to feel ripped off later. And when dealers start dictating what you keep and don't keep, it sends me a signal that they have the upper hand, which I do not like.

I've owned two Mini's, including my GP. It is a lot of fun to drive. But I've also owned several mustangs, including a 771whp '67 Shelby GT500E Super Snake. Carroll Shelby ain't coming back to life.

If you sold that GT500 privately, I'd support that route. But trading that kind of car doesn't sit right with me.

Just my two cents...
