A new GP is waiting

Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking around your forum for the past two weeks and want to thank you all for your wonderful insights which helped me take the plunge. Tomorrow I am picking up my GP and you would think it was the birth of my first child.

My name is Jeff and I live in Chapel Hill NC. I will be sure to post pics when I get home from my journey.

One question...how have you found the halogen lights for night driving on dark roads? My last two cars had Xenons and I wonder if I will miss them:confused:

Cheers!

You will miss them! I still cannot believe they were not included on the GP.

I miss the Xenons tremendously when driving my GP at night. (My points of comparison are the Xenons in the '05 MCS and in the '05 Corvette.) Having said that, overall I -love- the GP, and I'm looking into some Hella units for driving light assistance and (separate pair) fog lights too.

I didn't have them on my MCS either - so I'm not missing them - but I did purchase some upgraded Silverstar bulbs at my dealer - they shine a bit brighter and whiter... but not ricer looking (blue like) - I think they cost $40.

Xenon I guess are heavier and couldn't be added... who knows.

If you had a 2006 MCS with Xenons and a 2006 GP side by side, could you do a swap and how difficult would it be?

SoCal_Mini 12-20-2006 01:49 PM

I don't know, but I'm sure that this has been covered somewhere on the forums - if I recall correctly its not such a simple plug-&-play

GoodFinder 12-20-2006 01:57 PM

It is actually a still open question as to what would be involved to do the swap and yes I am quite interested in the answer!

Glad we have a GP in this area. We had a Christmas get together for our Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club ( http://www.tarheelminis.org/ ) and discussed that we had not seen any GP's. Join the club and get a discount off MINI parts and accessories at Flow. Will look forward to seeing you around!!

Welcome to the club - I forgot to welcome you in my first post.

You're gonna love the GeePee as much as we all do.... I'm sure of it!

Thanks for the welcome.

Flying out tomorrow morning to bring her home

cheers

post up pics and impressions of your trip when you get back - I'm jealous that you get a break-in road trip...my dealer is just 2 miles away so its taken me a while to finish mine, but I'm almost to 1200mi. woohoo

If it's anything like other cars there involves a wiring harness for the Ballast and the rear axle level sensor.
