JCW or not JCW

Is there serial number designation that confirms a factory JCW mini? I’m looking at buying a 2004 that doesn’t have badges. Just wondering if there is any way to know for sure

BMW Vin checker..

6th digit of Vin a '9' .. then its a factory JCW.

Factory JCW have forged internals.. where as 'stage 1' JCW kit is a MCS with the JCW bits.. so it does not.

Some helpful resources. The Factory JCW began production in model year 2006

To determine the factory options: https://www.bmwvin.com

Info on JCW versions and production: http://minicooper.wikia.com/wiki/JCW...Factory_Models

The big difference between the factory built JCW and the dealer kit is the factory cars came with a LSD (limited slip differential). There will be those that point out the changes to the supercharger and some other stuff but talking around 8-10 HP. You can add some pulleys to get the HP pretty easy but the LSD additions is not easy or cheap.

I have had a MINI without the LSD and my JCW has the the LSD. Less torque steer.

Thats a new one for me as well. The 6th digit (of the last 7) in my 2006 fJCW is a "9" so could be true?

Same. So next to last digit would be the 9? I have a fJCW, 2007 R52 with Sidewalk.

With regard to LSD my 2005 Hardtop MCS did have LSD from the factory. I forget the option code, but it showed up when I ran the VIN check.

Regards,
Jerry

2006 R53 factory JCW and GP do not have forged internals.

Connecting rod
Pistons
Crankshaft

Notice in the GP in URLs and these parts are the same as every other MINI produced from 2000-2006.

“Cornjuice” added the comment about internals, and looks like he has a 2nd gen MINI. I believe there are differences on 2nd gen fJCW, but definitely not on 1st gen.

Correct, R56 fJCW did indeed have different internals. No idea about 3rd gens.

Hmm, perhaps the juice was getting to you. I had a friend that was a farmer. His father and uncle would put a 55 gallon barrel in the bottom of the silo before they put new silage in. They would but a screen over the top to keep the pieces from falling in. The next year they would take the liquid out the barrel and start all over again.

What do you think they did with the stuff, or do you already know?
