What's the COOLEST thing someone has said to you about your car?

I was at a stoplight, and a guy on a BEAUTIFUL Harley pulled up next to me. Over the rumble of his bike, he says, "Nice car! I'll trade you!"

I had gone to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription. As I was going in, a very frail elderly lady was leaving. About 5 minutes later I walk out of the store and this same lady is standing next to my MINI. As I walked up, she turned to me and asked if it was my car. When I told her it was she smiled real big and told me how much she liked it and wished she had one. We stood there for 5 or 10 minutes with her walking around the car asking questions and really looking it over. Out of all the times someone has admired the car, this one is my favorite memory.

Pulled up in front of BestBuy to pick up my 15 y/o son. A cluster of 3, 20ish y/o military-looking (I live near MCAS Miramar) guys were in the crosswalk entering the store.

One of them says, "wow, that's a hot car". Another said, "F&%# the car, check out the chick driving it".

My son, who'd just exited the store overheard this exchange and turned to them and said, "DUDE...that's MY MOM!".

When he got in the car, I asked him why I couldn't have just been his sister for that ONE day.

Needless to say, my ego got a nice little charge.

Several people that I work with, including my supervisor have all made comments about what a nice car I have, one even calling it "festive". But the thing some of them have said that is the coolest is:

Supervisor: "Is that your MINI out there?"
Me: "Yes"
Supervisor: "I knew it! You like like a MINI person!"

The same conversation has happened between me and others in the office as well. I take it as a huge compliment!

Great story...

The day after I got it, I was up in the Sonoma wine country where we have a vacation rental. I was driving around the neighborhood early in the am with my buddy checking out the other houses, top down, and Devo's "Whip It" playing (not too loud, mind you, it was early!).

A guy on a racing bicycle strolled on by, actually passing us as we were driving. He slows down, leans over and says, "Nice Ride". I had this big ole' grin on me. To date (and only 2 weeks of ownership), that was the coolest thing anyone has said.

Love this Mini!

My favorite conversation I had concerning my MINI was when I was running into DQ to get us (people at work) some icecream while I was on my break. As I started walking to the door I head a few kids and a guy say "Look at the MINI!", right then I walked back to the car and they were very excited. So I unlocked it and let the kids (probably 7 or 8ish) jump in. The guy was like, "Dude, it may be small, but its a hell of a lot of car." :)

The coolest coment came from my MA when he said, "here's the key's, this baby is yours."

CR&PW&JB Apr 5, 2007 10:02 AM

Maybe not the coolest thing said about my car, but what I enjoy the most:

Every day when I pick up my son at school, the other kids in the after-school program come running to the door just to get a look at my MC. I took them all out to get a close look one day. It was like Christmas to those kids.

I drove the PW one over there once and of course, when they see me at the door, they come running over to take another look. This time, one of them said in a very serious tone, "You painted your car??".

Yesterday morning, while picking up breakfast at a place I visit regularly, I was asked, "If you win the lottery, can I have your car?"

Ha ! I couldn't mess with a 10-year old that way. I told her we have two of them. She thought that was pretty cool, too.

gokartride Apr 5, 2007 11:50 AM

I get "nice car" from kids in the neighborhood, which is high praise when lavished on an crusty old curmudgeon like me.

Skuzzy Apr 5, 2007 11:54 AM

I get a lot of, "Where is it?" Or, "Wow! You'll be able to actually sit in the backseat and drive! A backseat driver,..get it? <nudge nudge wink wink>"

Ok, so it may not be cool, but its the best I can do at the moment! :)

Bigcoyote Apr 5, 2007 01:27 PM

Hey all,

I always get people that think the MINI's cost Big Bucks - " I love your car! but how can you pay 50K for such a small car? "

After explaining how much the MINI really costs - they all love it and want one of thier own.

The most memorable comment was from and elderly lady with her husband - she had not seen a MINI up close before and her husband owned a Mini when he was stationed in England in the 60's. After checking out my MINI she told her husband " We are going to the dealer tomorrow and get one! We need to have some fun!"

An elderly lady coming out of a store asked if she could play checkers on my checkerboard roof:)

texaspaul Apr 5, 2007 06:28 PM

i havent really had anything more than "nice car"...

a kid down the street almost 2 years old mabey...always says "nini" everytime i drive by...his parents are always telling me how hes talking bout "Paul's Mini" it makes me smile everytime!!!

Jeremy1026 Apr 5, 2007 08:05 PM

I got one today! I was driving to work and was pulling up to a red light. To my left was a guy with his younger daughter (4 or 5 probably). After 15 or so seconds she realized I was next to them and I could hear her scream, "MINI COOPER!" my window was down, their windows were up.

flingger Apr 5, 2007 08:13 PM

I was at a friends wedding driving my '64 lIncoln (it was part of the wedding) and I was talking to the minister about cars and he said "you know...I see a lot of those MINI Coopers these days". I said "me too...I own one".

mauberley Apr 5, 2007 08:29 PM

Is it bad that I didn't parse "minister" as "the officiant of the wedding" but rather "MINI-ster"...

flingger Apr 6, 2007 11:33 AM

I suppose if he got one, then he would be a "MINI-ster"

Loony2N Apr 6, 2007 11:34 AM

"Cool car, man"

sideache Apr 6, 2007 02:12 PM

from a friend "I also thought you were butt ugly, sitting in that car however - you're just ugly.
