Wife's JCW Rear Ended

This happened in Wyoming on our way to the dealership in Loveland ,C0.
Semi truck hit her when she was off the road stopped with hazard lights on.
Waiting for the car to be towed from the towing yard in Gilette Wy. to Billings,Mt.
Luckily she was not hurt too bad.

That's terrible. Hope your dear wife has a full and fast recovery!

I've driven in bad weather/road conditions and continuing is bad enough but pulling over seems to have some risk as well.

Road signs I've seen say when one needs to stop due to bad visibility to pull over as far as possible on the shoulder. Turn off the lights. Can leave the engine running. Take foot of brake pedal. Stay in the car and stay buckled up.

In some cases a car on the shoulder with flashers on looks like a vehicle in the lane and a following driver will use the (assumed lead) vehicle for direction. But that is not the way it should work. If one can't tell where the lane is without relying upon a lead vehicle it is time to pull over.

Added: The above could be read like I'm blaming your wife. That was the furthest thing from my mind. She did what she felt was right -- and honestly what I have done in similar situations -- but I thought I'd post what the signs along my drive from AR to CA had to offer regarding when driving into and in stretches of the road with bad visibility (in this case dust storms). But it applies to fog and snow or even heavy rain.

Glad your wife wasn't hurt badly. That is one desolate looking stretch of highway!

This is a bad news/only news that matters situation because as bad as it is for her car to be damaged the only thing that matters is that she is ok. Very glad that's the case.

Thanks everyone.
My wife is ok just beat up a little.

Long story short she turned around to see if the guy was ok then this happened.
Good deed turned to S**T.
