Vehicle / Car Wraps...yay or nay

Hello, first poster here.

I am seriously considering wrapping my car red, as I'm finding it hard to take to the light coffee color. What do you think of the light coffee? Is it worth wrapping? The job is going to put out 2k. I have a 2012 mini countryman S ALL4. Thank you for your input in advance.

I think it depends on how much the car is exposed to the elements. If it's garaged and not a daily, the wrap should last a lot longer. Also, a big thing would be if you could take seeing light coffee jambs on a red car every time you get in.

Ahhhhhhh, ok. So are you saying that the wrap is more than likely to peel as a daily driver?

So hard to get use to the color 😕

Did you not see the coffee color before you bought the car. It’s only like the most important thing.

I did, but I had been searching for the exact same car for a couple of months, and this was the only one I found with the options I wanted and the price was right. I thought I would get use to it, but it's just not happening. I'm a red kind of gal. What do you think of the color?

Would go good with a doughnut. Sorry. It’s like the opposite of red. But that’s what wraps are for.

Is the color appealing? I wish I could trade it but I'm in love with the car less the color.

Color is very subjective, not my cup of tea, but neither is red. Maybe try a nice black stripe kit before you go all in with a wrap.

That's a good idea. Idk I'm just so torn. It's gonna cost me 2k+ to do the wrap. And now someone posted that it doesn't last in daily driving? Well that's just a waste of money. I'd rather go for a cheaper paint job.

Oh my...i wouldn’t go for a cheaper paint job, you’ll cut the vehicle’s value in half as soon as they pull it out of the paint booth. Stay with temporary. This gives you an idea of just some basic rally stripes (which I like) choose a complimentary color, obviously professionally applied.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/31223475359...6&toolid=10001

Sites like this give you an idea of how many colors you have to choose from.

And other ideas here

If you choose this route, go to a pro shop that does wraps first, tell them what you want to do, they can help you (if needed) find a good design and color.

Like the stripe suggestion above, making the car something you’d like with the existing paint would probably be the way to go. Personally, I think gold (maybe copper?) stripes and/or side graphics would look great with that color and not be over the top. You might have to change the color of the wheels to make everything work together, but stripes and painted wheels should be a lot cheaper than a full wrap or paint job.

Are there any other Countryman’s with stripes, graphics, or wheels(color) you’ve liked? If so, play with some ideas by photoshopping them on pics of your car in whatever color you want and see how it looks.

A full wrap or repaint is a big decision, so here are a couple of more things I would consider before making the decision:

The durability of the wrap depends on a lot of things and if it’s a daily that’s not garaged I would probably pass.

AFAIK, a cheap paint job would probably still cost more than a wrap, and you’ll still have to deal with the jambs being a different color unless it’s a really cheap job. A repaint will also hurt the resale value as most people will think the car was repainted because of an accident.

A budget paint job is usually noticeable and could also raise questions on what other corners might have been cut, such as not spending money for maintenance or repairs. Of course, most of the concerns regarding price and quality assume you don’t know someone in either business who can do a great job for a reasonable price.

Hello and thank you for the replies.

Actually I'm not too crazy about the stripes seen on other minis. I do plan on changing the wheels to all black. I'm hoping that will spice it up a little bit.

So no paint job, got it.

No vinyl wrap unless garage kept? What if I do keep it in a garage, but drive it daily? Would that not work?

Now that I look at your mini, black (plastic dip or paint) wheels, graphics hood and hatch, even the sides if you’re the rebellious type lol, and that coffee mini will make you proud lol. Good luck.

Here’s a few more subtle ideas lol.

It’s your car, if you hate the color then wrap it. There are good quality wraps out there, just make sure you do your research on places, and don’t just go running to billy bob because he’s the cheapest. A quality wrap and ceramic coat should last for a long time as long as you take care of it. And if you Were to find that perfect one, you’d most likely be upside down in a loan, I have a few Acquaintances that have carried over from other loans, which makes no Fing sense to me. Yeah you might have gotten a better interest rate or no car payments for 6 months but your payment is how much more?

I'm not a fan of the coffee color. That said, I would probably keep the paint job because I think paint looks better than vinyl (which is what wraps are) and wraps, even good quality ones, can go bad quickly if you have a harsh climate.

On the other hand, wrapping opens you up to a world of color possibilities - you can pick the exact color you want and make your car unique.

Perhaps a compromise? Wrap the roof with white to give the car some contrast and reduce the monotony of coffee. Put on some white side mirrors. Keep the silver wheels, as they look better with coffee, I think. I'm shopping for a MINI and have found that having a white roof drastically changes the looks of a car.

Experiment with the mirror caps before doing anything else.

Maybe wrap the top with white? That would help brighten it up and look very Mini. Maybe the mirrors also.

$2k for something temporary is hard for me to accept. I agree with the others that painting a different color would be expensive and never looks as good as the original finish.

If you go with a standard gloss color and stay away from the extreme colors, the wrap will be fine as a daily even without a garage. The best part, it protects your original paint for resale and you can change the color anytime you want.

Thank you. This is good news because I'm not sure I can stomach the color too much longer. Saving for it now.

So, I was walking with my wife today and saw this. It looked pretty nice to me. As I said, putting in a white roof and white mirror caps really changes the looks of a dark color car. And cheaper than wrapping a whole car.

Yes!!! I really like this. Would you take white over black?

Yes, I would 100%, without a doubt, wrap the roof in white instead of black. Because the coffee color is so dark, having a white roof provides a really lovely contrast, whereas a black roof would blend in with the coffee too much - it kinda defeats the whole point of getting a contrasting roof, IMO.

Once you do the white roof, you may even grow to appreciate the coffee body more because the car will no longer be as monotonous. Coffee is not a common color, and it's nice to have something a bit more unique. After all, so much of having a MINI is about having a personality.
