Antenna issues

I just brought my new to me Clubman home and was going to try and fix the antenna (I knew about it before I bought it, it wasn't a deal breaker). Can I just unscrew it and replace the top part of the antenna ( and get the shorter one while I'm at it) or do I need to take the whole thing apart?

The housing itself seems okay. I covered the cracks with electrical tape for the moment.

Yes, you can unscrew the top part of the antenna and buy a replacement. My new to me MINI that I purchased a couple of months ago also came without the antenna.

I am a fan of replacing the OEM antenna with the shorter antennas because they are less likely to break, I had one break on my R53 MINI years ago and I had to get the whole base replaced...it was a stupid mistake on my end, I should have removed the antenna before I went into the carwash.

I just bought a replacement from ECS Tuning for my current MINI. Here is a link to the one I purchased but there are many different companies that sell and/or make compatible antennas for the MINI.

Thank you! If I take it off to go use a car wash, should I cover the hole with electrical tape or something?

You should keep water out of the threads, over time i have seen the threads get corroded. So just make sure its dry before you reinstall the antenna. .
