N18 Tensioner Torque

Hello,

Anyone know what torque value a new N18 timing chain tensioner should be installed to?

Is it really necessary to put the engine at TDC before removing the tensioner?

Thanks, but how can removing the tensioner cause the crank to turn?

So, I replaced my tensioner last weekend, I purchased a crank alignment tool from ECS however on my Countryman there is an exhaust bracket that picks up off the bell housing, the bracket extends to cover the alignment access hole. Now this bracket is fastened by one of those stupid external torx bolts. I could get a proper torx socket on it but the exhaust is in the way of the ratchet :-( I was going to go buy a torx wrench but I couldn't be bothered so I put the motor at 90° and did the job.

It was a bugger to get to though, that inlet duct is a real pain, I couldn't get the bottom joint freed but I finally managed to get a socket on the tensioner and a breaker bar. Fitted the new one and managed to get a torque wrench on it, job done.

What surprised me was that the old tensioner came out in 3 pieces, housing - spring and piston, is that normal????

You can get it in the kit or on its own like stump grinders above.

Should be all together, not separated.
