Will a new Mini last longer???

I have a 2009 JC Works that I absolutely love. It's in the shop now with $6,500 worth of repairs needed. I have already put about $10k into it thru the years. Is this normal? I would love to fix my car and I would if I knew it would last another 5 years. If I purchase a new mini, will it last longer than 94k miles?

How much of the cost was associated with the engine?

Not a lot of F series MINIs have gone 90,000 miles, but haven't read of major problems with this generation. I wouldn't be putting $6500 into a 2009, after having already sunk $10K. But that is my take.

Can't give you guarantees on either scenario - good luck!

2009 Mini

[QUOTE=r53coop;4333761]How much of the cost was associated with the engine?[/QUOTE

It's approx. $3200 to replace the oil filter gasket and the other $3300 is for the pcv and valve cover (assembly). There are also misc costs included but they are minimal. The labor is the most. Parts are about $700... I know this isn't the engine, per se, however, this is the second valve cover we have put on. Is that normal? Maybe Mini's are just expensive to own. I read somewhere that you can expect to put $2k into them each year after warranty.

Ouch those numbers hurt. Glad I do my own wrench turning. Many will say the only thing a N14 is good for is a boat anchor.

I know a guy with over 200,000 miles on his N14 and is quite happy, however, there are others that enjoy their boats more.

Where does the N14 come from?
If I get a new JC works - 2018, 2 door hardtop, what number will it be?

thanks

The JCW 2018 is an F56 model with a B48 engine last I checked. My F56/s also has the B48 engine before they moved them to a B46.

The N14 is the model number of the Prince engine in your car. It was replaced by the N18 engine in the remaining years of the Gen2 cars (turbo charged). MINI started to put BMW engines in the Gen3 MINIs.

I think OP needs to visit a different "shop". Those prices are theft if as described.

$4000 replaced the turbo with new from MINI, oil filter housing gasket, oil feed lines all at a MINI dealer.

No way I'd keep a car with $2000 worth of repairs every year. I'd rather spend the money and buy a new one.. The car is not worth what your spending in repairs already.. I had my '06 Justa Cabrio for 10 years and 165,000 miles and only spent alittle more then that in total repairs...

I hate to tell you this, but the dealer is raping you and it hurts! Turn and run from them and find an honest indy shop to help you keep your cars on the road!
Also learn to do basic maintenance, to keep your car happy and only use high octane fuel in it!

You have got to find a Repair Shop that is not a dealer. Their labor rates will be lower and for certain parts there are better aftermarket ones to use therefore not having to pay thru the nose for a MINI part is a big plus as well..

Seriously, I've done a lot worse for a case of cheap beer.

Agreed. Not that I'm a fan of witch hunts, but I want to know what dealer this is as well.

$10,000+ to keep an 8 year old car on the road? That is just unacceptable. I don't think I've spent anywhere close to $10,000 repairing my 18 year old truck.

Those are some crazy numbers. I would run and find someone else. With those 10,000 you already spent on it you could probably lease one for 3 years.
