Help! R53 Won't start - 2 month old battery...

Hi all,

My 05 R53 won't start. I drove it around all morning and afternoon yesterday, got to my parents house, hung out for a few hours, went to leave, and car wouldn't start. I thought I heard a pop or click noise, but the radio was on so it's hard to say
When I tried/try to start it, I get a whining noise and that's it (will try to attach sound clip). My dad tried jumping my car with his truck and got nothing. We let it charge up the battery and it wouldn't start. Moved the cables to the front end terminals, let them sit for a while - nothing. Adjusted them, let them sit - still nothing. I'm thinking it's the starter - but could something have drained my battery already, or would that have charged up with the jump? Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Shelby

Try a real battery charger on the battery and see if it will accept a charge; even a new battery can fail. Before blaming the starter I would double check all the cabling between the battery and the starter for loose or corroded connections.

Yea, try to fully charge it ( takes a while with a big battery charger ) and load test it , I had new batteries go bad on the MINI from setting too long without a trickle charger. most battery companies will warranty it.

Thanks guys. Tested the battery (12 volt battery) and the charge was 11.8. Replaced the starter with a used one that was tested and worked. Bought from a reputable seller with a 30 day money back guarantee. The starter I took out of my car rattled like something was loose inside. The replacement one did not rattle.

Replaced the starter. Car still won't start. There is still no clicking or anything that signals that the car is attempting to start.

Gonna bump start the car tomorrow and take it to advanced auto and have them run the full diagnostic(load test?) To test the battery and starter and all that good stuff.

Any other thoughts on what the issue could be?

11.8 volts is a low battery. Borrow a charger and charge it overnight.

Are engine and battery grounds tight?

Have you checked the switch on the clutch pedal? Sometimes a magnet on the switch will close that circuit.

A battery with 11.8 volts is bad. So you should get it to over 13 volts before you do anything else.
