VIN swapping is an immensely serious issue. I know a shop owner who had an employee who did a swap on some car well after he was no longer employed by the shop. The feds came around and talked to the shop owner for a good while, and he had to jump through a number of hoops to show that he was not in any way connected with the ex-employee's actions.

The ex-employee wound up doing some jail time for that.

Like I said, it's serious bad mojo.
