Squeaks, rattles and other noises

In several reviews I've read recently, about MINIs about as far from each other as you can get (ranging from the Coupe to the Countryman) I've seen references to the interior being a virtual symphony of rackets.

Has that been your experience with MINI? And have you found ways to permanently solve the issue, beyond turning up the radio and driving faster?

My mini is relatively quiet. However, it does have a few squeaks and rattles. My position is------ it's a mini and i accept it for what it is!

Mine makes all kinds of interior rattles and noises. Drives me absolutely insane. I spend my whole commute leaning over and pressing on panels trying to hunt them down. The worst part is that they are not consistent, there one day gone the next. So you may think you fixed it, then its back.

If interior quality is important to you, get something else.

My position is: This isn't 1982, MINI needs to get their @#$ together.

Mine made a ticking noise that came from the roof toggle switch assembly. Easy dealer fix when I was in for my annual service. Its been squeak free ever since.

Most of mine are self-induced by the installation of my Soundstage, sigh :(. I do have one creak in the center stack, near the windshield that occurs while coming to a stop in cold weather only. Weird.

I'm glad to hear that some people, at least, haven't had big squeak issues -- or that the dealer was willing to tackle them. It's not that I'm unwilling to let a squeak happen, just that I'm unwilling to let it be ignored. If dealer's are willing to pull things apart and put padding in place to stop the noises, I'm cool with that.

I've had a few squeaks and rattles (it's an old one, maybe they've gotten better.) but I've solved a few by wedging strips of styrofoam into the offending areas.

2010 R55 JCW same problem here. I absolutely love my Clubman but if I could get rid of something, it would be all the noise from the interior plastics. I've taken it to the dealer twice regarding this matter and I've gotten nothing accomplished. I agree Mini needs to fix that issue. This is the 3rd Mini in our family and this has always been an issue. Some worst than others!

The passenger seatbelt will rattle unless you pull it away from the door panel. (Or have a passenger. )

That's the only issue I have so far as squeaks and rattles are concerned.

My 2011 JCW has a harmonic vibration at 2K rpm that rattles the rear view mirror. Car is at the dealer getting a new mirror installed.

03. passenger seatbelt rattling is my only issue. i just throw it around the headrest while alone. my driveway is a huge incline change and i get a weird noise going in and out of it. not scraping. more of a tweaking noise. but can't complain about that. thats the only time it makes a noise!

On my 2011 I have this weird rattle every time I drive slowly through parking lots and what not, and it's located on my driver front side but it's not consistent enough to where I can find it. I even tried pushing down on my front shock to see if I could hear it but absolutely nothing:-/. I agree like the other person said, it is NOT 1982, these sort of issues shouldn't be around on these newer models in general.

My '07 Yaris had a couple of rattles show up within the first couple of years, but the dealer chased them down and fixed. If Toyota is willing to do that for a $14K car, I see no excuse for MINI dealers who won't fix noises on cars that are much more expensive (the Roadster I'm eyeing will come in much closer to $40K than to $30K...).

My dealer has a "how is that our problem" or "we couldn't replicate the noise" stance. My wife says the rattles don't bother her much, so I'm giving her the Mini and am in the market for another car.

That's absurd. As far as I'm concerned, for the duration of the bumper-to-bumper warranty, the dealer should fix absolutely anything that isn't behaving the way it should.

occasional door rattle in my '12 but nothing major. To be fair every car I've ever owned, new or not has some form of squeak or rattle. Hope my '13 proves to be equally as enjoyable to own.

I have two that bug me in my 2011 JCW hardtop. One is a rattle from the air vent to the right of the steering wheel. If I put a finger on the center adjustment ****, it stops. Sometimes I can twist the **** just right or position the vent just right so that it stops for a while, but eventually it comes back. I asked the dealer about it when I had the car in one time. They said they fixed it, but they didn't.

The other is a rattle somewhere in the drivers door. If I push down inside the back of the door pocket it stops.

Both of these rattles are very annoying.

Tigger, had the same door rattle in my 2011. Dealer found a defective and improperly installed clip holding the interior door panel to the door frame. I understand this is fairly common.

Thanks for letting me know about that. I'll ask Flow to check it out the next time I have the car in.
