Can't decide if I want to keep my MINI
So I have been a BMW person ever since I was a kid.. I started off with a fantastic E30 coupe and drove it for 6 years.. i then picked up an RX8 6 speed, and sold it one year later to the day because I just wasn't into it..
realizing I shouldn't break the bmw code, I got myself back into an E30 coupe...great car but it had no sunroof and needed too much work after a couple months.. I sold that. got into an E36 coupe 5 speed.. Loved it Loved it...great car.. 9 months after getting that it developed a head gasket issue.. sold that and got a 2008 Cooper S 6 speed.. the MCS is awesome to drive, incredibly quick and handles like a porsche.. but two months into it, I am already getting the feeling that I just dont want it anymore.. its in mint condition..nothing wrong with it but I cant help but want another Bimmer.. I told myself when I bought it, its practically a bmw anyway...its reliable and fun...but I dont know anymore.. the reason I bought it because its the same price as a 2006 bmw with 100k on the motor and my MINI has 37k on it..and its an 08! Now I can't help but want a 330ci ZHP coupe/convertible.... what the heck should I do noww? |

You sound a lot like me. I change cars as frequently as people change tooth brushes. It's fun. You're right, the MINI is a lot of fun to drive. My MCS sounds a lot like yours...it's an '08 I bought 2 or 3 months ago and it has 30k miles. It's decently quick (I wouldn't call it "fast"), has good handling up to 8/10ths limits and is a fun car to drive. But I think the MINI is a car you either "get it" and you're hopeless in love or you "don't get it" and it doesn't grab you. I'm still on the fence with mine, I think I need to drive it more to make up my mind. If your mind is made up, it's time to move on. Just don't take a bath on resale. |
Go buy the BMW. If you reread your post it is clear that is the make of car you like, want and lust over. You tired of both the RX-8 and the MINI and raved about the BMW's you have owned, even though two of the three BMW's had needed more work then you were willing to put up with.

I did make it look like my minds made up huh? I absolutely want the BMW no doubt.. I am thinking of waiting a few months to hopefully score a convertible E46 in the late winter to get a decent deal on it.. I'd love to sell the MINI privately, but its financed, and that can be a nightmare for the person buying it..I sold my RX8 (financed) privately and the poor guy had to let the car sit for a month before I could get the title from the bank to him..
but I cant help think that MINI is fast...at least for its size... I don't care for the instability in the steering under full acceleration though.. but thats an overall FWD drawback.. plus I do like the SPORT button very much.. I wish BMWs had the tighter steering like the MINI does |
Some dealers will do the title transfers and loan pay-offs (for a fee) if you bring them a buyer. Especially if you are buying a car from them.

do what I did and keep the e30 AND the Mini
E30 breaks often enough that it's not a reliable car to be the only car. Needed to do payments on something cheap to build credit so I found an '08 S with 18k miles on it :) |
I hope you don't live in a state with a high sales tax. In CA it costs a mint to swap cars out.
