You Guys were right

So last night I decide to check my oil.
I bought the car a 2007 MCS with 33,000 miles on it and it is now at 35,800 miles.

Simple right

Well I open the hood and pull out the dip stick, now I did this a couple of weeks ago with no issues.
The oil viscosity must have changed enough that I can not read the dip stick to save my life.
Seems it is not reading at all, so I add some oil. I then realize I have over filled the oil and have to put it up on ramps and let some oil out.

After cussing and getting the oil level about right cause I still can not read the dang thing I go up stairs and order the craven dip stick for my car.

When I first got on this site I was wondering how you morons could not read a dip stick

Guess what? I am one of you morons

Ha ha ha ha join the club! How they can mess up a dipstick surpasses understanding. At least we have choices.

Of course we were right!!!

About what? Lol

Oh the dipstick thing... Yea that...

Did that once on my 04 being worried about the low oil issues some have had.
I put 3 qts in before I got a good read and then had to drain the 3 back out.
Live and learn.
Yup, I am part of the moron club.

free solution:
step 1 open hood
step 2 remove dip stick
step 3 roll end of dipstick on towel or rag

... now that thinkin with your dip stick!

Doesn't everyone do Step 3? that's how I was tought to check the oil many moons ago, that way you can also see where the wet bit starts.

I do agree though that even with Step 3 its still hard to see...

Read it in the morning before you start the car. It should be easy to see.

I have a 2007 MCS , and oil level reads high when check first thing in the morning ( cold ) . When I follow the directions of letting warm up to operating temp ( 5 min ) then check 5 min later after truning off . My oil level reads correctly.
I also put dip stick in leaving 2 3/8" of an inch out , 4 times wiping oil off with rag to clean oil out of dip stick tube then stick in the 5 th time all the way down and read oil level . This method seems to work for me.

Right. Once you know you have the right amount of oil, then check it in the morning (sometimes I leave the dipstick out all night) and note where it is. That is your point of reference.

You can also buy a Craven dipstick or do like I did. As long as I clean it well, including the dimples and grooves, it is pretty easy to read, although I still use a paper towel.
