Beware of the drone!!!!!!

I am new to this paticular site... I have had my mini for around 2 months and have been very busy doing many many modsone of which included upgrading my exhaust...I tried two different applications one being Magna flow the other Flowmaster, done from the cat back including a resonater delete and 2.5 tubing but unfortunatley they both sounded fine from the exterior but once inside the DRONE was unbearable and made the car seem very cheap... all I could picture while driving around was a teenager in a little rice ROCKET ,,WHICH I AM NOT!!!! soo just wanted to let you all know unless you are prepared for a super loud interior DO NOT waste your money on either of these systems or upgrades... you either have to spend some serious cash(around $1000) for a top of the line system like REMUS or just stick with a resonater delete and stock exhaust like i did. After wasteing my money..() I have researched this site quite extensively and found many others to have the same opinion , anyways looking forward to being a member of NAM for a while and love the site so far......

Does the resonator delete cause any drone and is it louder? I put the remus on my R55
And it sounded great. My current R57 is a non s and i just would like it a little louder. I dont want to spend the $650 for the Remus.
Thanks

hey

no its not bad actually really a great mod for around $30 bucks...perfect for what u want.......i did the delete and upgraded my tubing to 2.5 but its fine even if you dnt do that i say take it off but save it.... if you dnt like the change simply weld it back on very inexpensive mod but makes a big difference....in a good way

I hate to tell you but even the very expensive Akrapovic exhaust like I have on my JCW, is loud on the inside and has some drone. I don't even think it sounds great on the outside either. Spending more does not necessarily make it any better or less noisy. Its just a different kind of noise.

Its no where near the drone I had when I did a res delete on the factory JCW exhaust with an Akrapovic DP.

Bottom line... if you don't like drone at highways speeds I would pretty much stay stock.

I was not trying to correct you. I just wanted to point out that just because you spend more money does not guarantee you a quieter interior.

Zero drone with Remus. I listened to another Clubman ( Slimjim ) at the Dragon last year and was convinced. No drone at any speed. I hate drone.

I fixed my drone by adding the moroso spiral muffler to the 2.5 inch Alta exhaust. Before it was brutal, but now at highway cruise, you can't even hear the exhaust. Accelerate or decelerate and you can hear it again, but no drone. Best $120 I ever spent.

At the dyno day last year, my car was at least the loudest one there, so we are talking about a big difference.

I have a catless RR downpipe and a 2.5" Invidia Q300 and have very little drone. The resonator that is on it is pretty big and that for sure helps keep the drone down. When I am at highway speeds I hear it but about as much as my JCW exhaust that I had.

Even adding sound proofing padding under the rear seat should help a little bit. With such a small car with a loud exhaust...it is hard to not have a drone.
