Holy Smokes Can You Believe This??
Now using mostly mid-grade for my daily driving. If I anticipate a run I use premium...
We won't catch up to Europe unless we quadruple the gas tax. They buy oil at about the same price we do.
There is no shortage of oil. (at least now). No oil deliveries are threatened. There is rampant SPECULATION. The sanctions against Iranian oil amount to maybe 2% of supply.
Oil is a futures commodity market. The gas you are pumping today was bought and payed for at least 6 months ago. Just watch what oil company profits do next year. I predict record profits again.
We are getting screwed again...

The "A" number 1 reason why I bought Llanrhaeadr, good gas mileage! The on-board computer says 35 mpg after my (whopping) first 190 miles. Forty is within reach after break-in and more distance driving.
Interesting article why CO gas is less expensive than the national average (not political):

We keep thanking our lucky stars that we were able to get 2 Fuel Efficient vehicles, my MINI and Hubby's 2010 Kia Soul SE#3 Shadow Dragon "SMAUG", when we did!!
We were driving an 11mpg Dodge Durango and an S-10 Chevy Blazer!!
The Blazer was Sold to make room for Molly, the Durango was traded in on the Soul!!

I'm working hard to get my CRX going again. Almost there.
I drive 96 miles per day. I do decent but it adds up plus there
is a little tribe of us, with a baby. Babies are EXPENSIVE.

I just redid the interior totally. I only have a little bit to go on the AC fix
then basically paint and I am done. (note: easy to say that is still several months of work). I lost pics to the suspension, brakes, etc rebuild. It is not clear to me
the mpg with that engine. My old engine I could get 44 no problem but I never
actually worked this one out. I have a professionally rebuilt head to put on, and new injectors.

Yup, it's mainly due to the actions of speculators, and the media.....a lot of which are surprisingly ignorant. I remember several years back Shell had an issue with a semi-submersible type rig where the spars on one side continued to fill with water causing the rig to list big time. The media then freaked out about how this would affect production and such. The result was a spike in oil & gas prices. The punchline here is, this happened when the rig was being relocated, it wasn't drilling or even hooked up to a well so it had no impact on production at all. The media mentioned this in passing at the end of the day, but it was almost like an afterthought and by that point the damage had been done, the prices did go back to normal, but it took a few days....vs the 30 min or so it took for them to jump up.
This site isn't supposed to be a politics, but since you opened that door... Obama has only been President for three years and the commercial development of algae conversion for fuel (like using corn for ethanol) has been going on for at least a decade.
Personally I don't worry about the price of gas. I didn't buy my 2005 S because of the mpg or to drive like a grandma....I bought it to DRIVE LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE DRIVEN!

Molly drinks only the Good Stuff and gets her fill on Friday Nights!!

I know the algae idea has been in the works for at least 10 years. I know someone who was sort of involved in the research, and it's still not viable. The corn ethanol is a joke, it's just subsidized unsustainable food burning.
Other than that, all we can do here is watch the price zoom up....
if I wanted to debate politics I'd be on a political forum. I have no problems criticizing the media or correcting the general public's misconceptions with verifiable facts, but lets keep opinions on political issues out of things please.
Overhere we call cars the "dairy cows of the Belgian government".
But hey, as mentioned by others previously... if I would be that concerned about gas prices, I wouldn't drive a MCS.
Fyi, 18.3 MPG... I only drive my sweety around town...

I agree that supply will eventually run out, but that's not the case right now. Oil supply isn't really a supply and demand commodity, it's controlled by a cartel. (like diamonds and dope) They fix the prices, and the production. And in almost every instance, when demand, or perceived demand, exceeds production, someone will break with the cartel production quotas and try to make some more money. Also as price goes up, people will drive less, buy more fuel efficient things, and demand will go down.
This will be true as long as production capacity exceeds demand. When the wells eventually dry up, then you will really see supply and demand take over.
