Updating my Mini's GPS

I recently got a 2005 mini cooper. and I wanted to update the built in GPS. I don't want to go to the dealer I would like to get it off the internet but Navteq(this was in the dvd reader) doesn't make gps update discs for mini any more. I was wondering can I use any update disc or or what?

MINI/BMW stopped using Navteq and switched to TeleAtlas. New map discs are available here: http://store.minigpsmaps.com/

For your 2005 model, there is also a separate update for the actual navigation system software, which will give slightly improved graphics and response. The firmware updater CD is about $10 from a BMW or MINI dealer, part number 01 59 0 141 891 (or available online from any vendor that sells OEM parts). Or the dealer can update it on your car for a nominal cost (or free). It only takes a couple of minutes.

Thank you rkw can you use and 2011 GPS DVD or only teleatlas?

Only TeleAtlas makes a 2011 GPS DVD that is compatible with the MINI navigation system. Actually they probably have an exclusive contract with BMW/MINI. The disc sold at the dealer (and from the link I posted) is made by TeleAtlas.
