So who's getting the Coupe? (R58)

Curious as there is very little mention of it in here... especially when the production debut is days away. Is it because most aren't fans? I'm considering ordering a JCW version myself. I miss my R53 JCW... Thinking about stepping down from my Boxster Spyder... Realigning my priorities. I fell in love with the R58 at debut back in '09. Seems the production version will be almost identical to the concept cars... The JCW version at least.
Which I'm quite happy with.

When the f56 comes out, I will take a look at the coupe but that is only if they update the engine for 2013/2014..

Looks good though :)

There's something about the top.It has always looked like an afterthought (a toupe)It would look so much better if they kept the angle in line with the back window.Sorry just IMO.

I really like it. Looks like an Audi mated with a MINI. I can't afford to trade up yet, but one of these may be in my future a couple of years down the line if they are shown to be generally reliable.

oldsbear Jun 18, 2011 01:31 PM

I like the concept, but it looked like that door opening wouldn't be high enough to tuck my head under without a couple years of yoga, so I opted for the hardtop instead.

RoyalJCW Jun 18, 2011 01:39 PM

I for one love the roof. It's something unexpected and original. Something that is hard to come by these days.

"Hello BlacknBoostn,
Our records indicate that you have never posted to our site before! Why not make your first post today by saying hello to the community using the 1st Gear forum. Posting is easy and will get you off and motoring with North America's largest and most active MINI community!"

Well, this is worthy as my first post, because this is one reason I am here. My brother in law introduced my wife and I to the MINI world, I could not have been more excited about the MINI. My wife owns a 2009 Eclipse Gray Cooper S Hardtop w/ MT. She is running 17in Enkei PF-01s, K&N CAI, MegaMini springs designed in collaboration by Hubie and Eibach.

These simple mods and amazing handling characteristics have absolutely stolen my motoring heart. I am currently driving a 2004 Dodge Neon SRT-4 (faster in the straight but nothing compared to the MINI in the twisties) and I will be upgrading to EITHER a 2012 JCW Coupe, or a 2012-2013 JCW Cooper Hatchback (only if the interior of the coupe feels claustrophobic).

Everything I have heard about the Coupe is exciting. Sure, it's a little funky looking, but I love it. Especially with the JCW Aero kit. It reminds me of the essence of what a FWD car should handle like and be capable of. Plenty of head space for me, I'm only 5'8"; plenty of speed in a lightweight turbo charged car, it'll be loads of fun.

For myself, can't wait :)

Scooter09 Jun 18, 2011 03:45 PM

For me, it all depends on the color combinations and the interior.

That made me  Maybe a cheeky owner will put a vinyl wrap on the roof that looks like hair. :)

I actually really like the looks of this and the roadster images that are out there. But after reading about rumors of another JCW GP type car coming out, I think I'm going to hold off for awhile and see. 'tis a great time to be a MINI enthusiast!

My husband is selling his 2007 S Convertible in a couple weeks while the convertible market is hot so he can put the payments away for the Coupe S.

I rather like this view in JCW form but I have no use for a 2-seater car. I must have the rear seating area for my dog.

I don't think much of the Coupe rear view though. I think the hatch looks far better.

Is the Coupe JCW going to have black headlights as an option or is this pic a Coupe S w/ JCW Aero pkg?

mister.t Jun 19, 2011 08:41 AM

I am VERY tempted, price dependant really.

cop1406 Jun 19, 2011 08:58 AM

I like it a lot, but I have a 13 year old who only wants to ride with me and I have to take my wife every now and then  so I need 4 seats. Definitely something I will look at when my car is 7 or 8 years old....

MiamiGuitarMan Jun 19, 2011 11:28 AM

Looks cool but I just traded in a 2-seater for my mini. Unless I reach a point where financially I can afford to have two cars, I doubt I'd ever buy a 2-seater again. Lots of fun but way too impractical.

My50 Jun 19, 2011 05:24 PM

I have a 2003 Cooper.

I want the smallest BMW Mini.

If I get another Mini, it'll be a Rocketman.

BoCRon Jun 19, 2011 05:42 PM

My MA says he's getting one. I can't wait to check it out.

The Coupe is the R59. I'm considering buying one but really wish it were lighter than the Hardtop.

Edit: Yep, had it reversed.

Still can't get over the design, maybe it doesn't bother some people, but there is too big of a disparity between the design of the lower half of the car and the upper half. It's like they lopped 2 different cars in half and then just welded them together and said "eh, looks good enough".

tccox Jun 20, 2011 07:14 AM

Naw, My MCS only has 6000 miles and its paid for. Think I'll be keeping it for a while. Not really crazy about the looks either.

ronnie948 Jun 20, 2011 07:29 AM

It really is hard to beat a hatchback Mini.

The Hatchback is a great design. It has room for a six + foot driver, four seats, a place to carry your luggage on a vacation. Back seat for the dog and it looks great like a Mini should. Yep!!! Hard to beat unless you need more room. Then the Countryman is available as well as a clubman.

The coupe will be nice for someone that wants a very different two seat car. I still would wait for the roadster over the coupe because if I have to carry an extra 100 pounds I want the top to go down. The ugly top on the coupe Really is not my style.

I'm sticking with my Hatchback anyway so good luck to you Mini People that get your new Coupes. I'm sure you will love them like I love my JCW Hatchback.

no luv for the coupe' here

IMHO, I love this...

ZeR0 EVOlution Jul 2, 2011 03:56 AM

I prefer having the back seats. Although I don't let anyone sit in them, it gives me a bit of "quick-to-reach" cargo space on trips. I don't like having to stop to get into my trunk, but having my seats folded down lets me grab anything I may need right when I need it. The Coupe DOES look nice, but it's just not for me. Even my Porsche is going to have back seats haha.

morphix Jul 2, 2011 05:13 AM

I'd like to get one some day. I occasionally have to transport a person that uses a wheel chair and I doubt it would fit in the R58.

MandB Jul 2, 2011 01:26 PM

Hey guys...glad to see there are a few threads on the upcoming coupe. I've been looking around to find the official color choices. Anyone find em' yet? I know the deal with the roof colors and how MINI is really pushing the contrasting roof color unless you get the black body color in which case you can have a black roof as well.
I'm curious to know if that "press" picture we see floating around with the blue body color and silver roof is truly going to be available as an option. And, when can orders be placed for the R58 if it's due in October?
