Got automatic? Better hurry before it's too late.

Way back when, there used to be a time when you could get the S model only with a stick shift trans.

It's about to be that way with all models.

The tsunami in Japan has disrupted the supply of auto transmissions to MINI. If you are thinking of ordering a MINI with an auto trans you'd better do it soon - it may already be too late. My MA told me about it yesterday.

Time for MINI to switch to a German auto tranny. Preferably a German DSG... Wait, that's not an auto. Its a Semi-Manual.

Either way, a MINI with a DSG would be a monster.

Bog Warner DSG would be sweet but I'd rather see Aisin get back up on its feet. The Japanese are hurting pretty bad right now

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. With all the vocal anti automatic people on this board, I was half expecting a torrent of "good riddance" comments

Guess I got mine just in time, although the DSG was the one thing I really really liked about the Golf TDI I almost bought instead of the Mini.

@ NavyNUKE- four more days:razz: Best of luck.
No more autos, :eek2: not good news.

The '07-'11 uses the aisin auto trans a pretty rock solid tranny used on alot of the japanese autos.Hate to see them use any other:no:

With the problems vw and audi are having with dsgs probably not a good idea to go with one. Maybe this shortage will help some people to discover the joy of shifting their own gears!

hoyme May 10, 2011 07:39 PM

My MA said this only impacted the Countryman. YMMV

The DSG problem is nothing like the old MINI transmission issues. Only issue VW and Audi had is the mechatronics unit which made low speed a bit rough but they recalled them and even covered the transmission up to 100k miles.
